I just came here to highlight this absolute gem of a comment so it doesn’t go unappreciated.
Wow, mixed reviews, ok

It's the logical extension of DOTC. The logical Extension of the Talking Head influence would be a Devo inspired track that circle back to the Police.

I kinda like the original; Sting's redux is hilariously bad

A commenter at the YT video for the Soundgarden cover suggested speeding up playback to 1.4x and it sounds like Led Zeppelin. Kind of amazing.

The soundgarden (normal speed) cover is great. The sped up version is even better. LOL

Tossing this out there to the peanut gallery: Couldn't you say Devo + Police (not necessarily Demolition Man, in particular) + Pearl Jam = Green Disease?
Always felt the intro, especially, had an early Police (first few singles) + slightly New-Wave-ish energy about it.

That cover is better at 1.5x speed. On that note, everyone should listen to Dark Matter on YouTube at 0.75x speed and report back.

Wow I never made the connection, but it certainly points in that direction. It also draws a nice line to Backspacer. I see a evolution I never really saw mainly because Green Disease kind of gets lost in the shuffle
