I don't hear that sound in Abe's kit though. It sounds like's tuned medium high... fat like Jack's snare was/is.

I love how everyone has just taken sources as truth here, or alternately wonders whether they’ve considered aspects of the player’s drumming - I know they make haphazard decisions about a lot of arrangements, but one would think they’d cross the i’s and dot the t’s on this one (deliberate choice).
I guess Boom and Josh K. might be disproving my point but I have some faith in such an important piece.

Boom was a bad choice. They could have just brought in any session guy. He co-wrote LBC with Ed. What a claim to fame and somehow it stuck for decades. I do like that song.
