Having said I agree with KD’s thoughts on TKOL, I do find that I respect Bloom more than I actually enjoy it.

It may be my favourite Radiohead song.

Bloom has been one of the standout songs of the last 3 Radiohead shows I've seen. Absolutely massive live cut.

Also I really appreciate all of the discussion & opinions of their discography. The truth is, they've never made a bad album or even come close. HMU if you want hot "Pablo Honey is also genius" takes

I agree with Joe here. Pretty much everything that KD describes is non existent to my years once the album starts. I get that RH was trying to to exactly what KD says, but instead they turned half baked ideas with an overall boring album.

And while there's definitely some forward-thinking stuff on that album ("Planet Telex"), songs like "Just" and "Bones" just strike me as painfully middle of the road '90's rockers, not much better than the stuff on Pablo Honey. I think it's an uneven record, at best.

Oh wow -- "Planet Telex" always struck me as one of the more boring compositions on The Bends, while "Just" is one of the most interesting from a musical perspective

The Bends rules and Bloom sucks.

I saw them play Bloom live and it sounded better but the album version sucks.

I just listened to King of Limbs for the first time in a long time. Although the second half is better than the first, I don't think it's good. They sometimes seem to fall in love with boring beats and/or uninteresting rhythms and KOL is the most concentrated of this irritating tendency.

Agree. Its almost as they dont really care about the song itself.

The "I'm moving out of orbit" line on Bloom jibes perfectly with what the music is doing in that song and really foreshadows how "off" the rest of the album is. From there through the rest of TKOL, there's a real sonic trip to be had. You don't really come back down to earth until the "from a long and weary dream" line on Separator hits your ears.

As someone like me prone to "feeling" music on a nearly synesthetic level, it makes TKOL one of my favorite listens and I revisit it when I really want to zone out to something on the headphones.

you can say this about most of the songs on the album. i remember not digging magpie on the album, but i fell in love with it after hearing it live. the same goes for lotus flower and codex. separator is just great both on the album and live though.

TKOL sounds so much better on drugs.

I think the album's brevity also helps quite a bit, too; I remember when it was released a lot of people thought it was kind of slight (everyone even thought the end of Separator signaled that another album was forthcoming), but it's the perfect length of time for me for the mood it sets.

Last night's show took me back at times to how long it's been since I first got into Radiohead, which was sometime in 1995. And I thought, "it's really been like 22 years?". It's amazing how time passes.

So when I got home from work I threw on this gem:

Rare performances abound: "Sulk", one of the last-ever versions of "Pop is Dead", "Killer Cars", an early "Subterranean Homesick Alien" and more Pablo Honey than you'll find at almost any point post-1994. Most interestingly: this is one of the few times they played every song on The Bends live in the same show (which they did at the following show too). All of the shows from the 1995 Japanese tour are incredible, but I think this one is the best.
