Taking my daughter to see Billie Eilish tomorrow. Just her and me.
I’d love for this to become “our thing” with her getting older.

super fun billie eilish show last night. i must say, she's quite the entertainer. she had that crowd eating out of her hand.
speaking of crowds, my one take away from both the dua lipa and the billie eilish shows is that that crowds for the shows i usually go to pale in comparison. it's crazy how demographics (most age) play a role in the concert experience. these shows blew me away with the energy of the crowds, and both performers just fed off of it. the older crowds being much more relaxed and subdued can often times turn a great show into a mediocre experience [cue doug rr standing front row in vancouver pissing ed vedder off].

Umphreys McGee/Disco Biscuits are doing a couple of shows close to me. I think they would be great and terrible all at the same time.

Two performers I'd love to see live. Glad you had a good time at both shows.

I believe it must have been 2005 or 2006 I went to see Big Day Out in the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn - consisted of jam bands: String Cheese Incident, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Keller Williams, among others. Umphree’s McGee opened the show and I thought they were quite good. Amassed a bit of a following since then. I’d see them again.

That sounds like fun. I will say in the more hypothetical sense since I cannot say a word about these artists in particular since I legitimately know next to nothing about them except they are very popular, that I hope they are on the right side of that line. The Beatles were over the line concerning fan energy right? I mean, the fact that they were playing music was immaterial to the fact that they were THERE. I feel like the same thing sort of happened with the pop groups in the late 90s. Just pure hysteria for hysteria’s sake. I don’t get the impression that is the case with these performers - I am just pointing out there’s a line.
By the way, same goes with a lot of rock groups in thr 90s/00s. When the crowd energy is just people who want to brawl and don’t care what’s happening on stage, that sucks too. Crowd energy is a careful thing. On the right side up to that line, it is thrilling, but it’s not hard to get into bad territory when the crowd itself and its energy are the primary vehicle and the artist is just there and beside the point.

Well, I saw tool last night. I’m glad I went, but it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for. Maybe it was where I was sitting, but the sound had an echoing quality to it which made it kind of muffled and blended together. We also couldn’t see the screen that was behind the band, which apparently is a pretty big part of the show.I think I was right in my first instinct to just enjoy music from the comfort of my home because I’m not really the kind of person to enjoy concerts, no matter how much I like the band. But I know that if I didn’t go, I would always be wondering if it would be worth it or not, so I am glad that I went. But holy shit drink prices are so fucking stupid and I feel like an idiot for buying any.

so i ended up selling my Lollapalooza ticket mainly because Phoebe Bridgers cancelled and then Janes Addiction cancelled and basically all i had left to see was Foo Fighters.
I saw a few shows over the streaming and i did not miss being there at all. Maybe im too old for that kinda of plan?

will do. i'm pretty stoked to see DIIV. best part about that show is the festival they're playing is FREE. one of the other headliners is The Drums, but we can't make it to that one.
