Amanda Gorman's Dutch translator stands down after uproar that Black writer wasn't chosen

Gorman herself was so pleased with the choice she retweeted the announcement... but that’s not good enough anymore is it?

I think the word “woke” should appear in the title of this thread

I wonder what John McWhorter will replace "The Elect" with.

I’m still very confused about conservatives rewarding Dr Seuss’s estate for cancelling several books by buying a shit ton of other Dr Seuss books and making them richer.

I think you are confused because you fail to realize that antifa and/or socialism banned all Dr Seuss books.

They are stocking up before the snowball becomes an avalanche. I mean, have the Wokes of Wokeville ever taken their boot off of a neck once it was in place or have they always pushed harder?

To be clear, the Wokes from Wokeville are apparently

1. Dr Seuss's publisher and estate
2. Disney (Corp)
3. Hasbro (Corp)
4. Whoever drew Bugs Bunny's girlfriend without big boobs
5. Jeep (Stellantis, Corp)

I saw more conservative calls to boycott Nike for that Colin K ad, or for Keurig after they pulled their ads from Hannity or whatever, than I've ever seen from progs for Dr Seuss or Mr Potato Head (that is, I saw more than zero). So that boot on the neck must really be something. But I still don't get the logic of financially rewarding the Seuss estate for making this move. If they're stocking up, shouldn't they be buying them used in order to avoid communicating to other publishers that HOLY SHIT CAN YOU EVER MAKE A LOT OF MONEY BY SELF CANCELLING?

Not even close. The books were removed from active publishing (and they are free to do that) based on these Wokes:

https://sophia.stkate.edu/cgi/viewconte ... ntext=rdyl

It just wasnt until this year's addition of Read Across America Day that honors Dr. Suess's birthday that it got dredged up again. Here's a recent recap that includes the snowball threat at the end:

The popular “Cat in the Hat” will remain in print for now, although it too has drawn criticism for drawing on racial stereotypes.
So in this case, not all the other but-what-about's you've got listed, there is a real threat of going from "come on baby, it's just the tip" to being fully fucked.

A fucking research paper? And then what happened? Like, did millions of people read a research paper and organize boycotts? What happened next?

Again, this article doesn't actually demonstrate any group of people doing anything. A teacher organization didn't celebrate his birthday and Joe Biden (gasp) didn't mention him in a proclamation about reading.

Where's the demonstration of risk to the estate? Honestly, how can it be true that Dr Seuss's estate was forced by ominous pressure to cancel books during a timeframe when also this:
The deceased author’s estate nearly doubled its income in 2020, according to Forbes, earning roughly $33 million and making him the highest-paid deceased celebrity besides Michael Jackson.

Again, no. 30 seconds on google would have solved this for you. What happened was last week the nation's richest county told it's schools not to connect the celebration with exclusively Dr. Seuss, as it had been telling them for several years, and that was spun into "banning Dr Seuss". The order to disconnect in Loudon County stemmed from anti-racist activism brought on by that research paper. That alone doesn't address the question of why the Trumpettes are buying up all the copies though. It was the instinctual reflex by anti-racists to cancel once the door was opened (by the fake news) that drove the publisher to obey and cancel six books, then the Amazon and other sales restrictions started and the Trumpettes feared the worst... and there is precedence... that the rest will be cancelled soon and replaced with more books like "The Anti-Racist Baby". So buying the books is intended to show support for the author's catalog despite the clearly bigoted works. It's a circle jerk of reactionary behavior by adults that doesn't do anything to help kids learn to read, which, least we forget, is the fucking point.

Again, where in this is the demonstration of risk to the estate of the highest earning dead celebrity besides Michael Jackson? What did the woke crowd do that put them in such an impossible bind? Not celebrate his birthday? There but for fortune may go you or I.

The thing about proclaiming that a woke mob is wandering the hillsides, ruining America, is that most of these examples of cancel culture...Dr Seuss, Disney, Jeep, Potato Person....are just brand management decisions. It's just fucking corporations reacting to a major cultural change event in the silliest, most clueless way possible. Why on earth does that surprise anybody?

A decision not to single out one specific author for adulation on national reading day doesn't demonstrate anything close to a "cancel culture" of dangerous pressure or consequence.

Or all these organizations are at least partially staffed by true believers. That might have something to do with it.
