For real tho. 2121 artists. Whew!
I think it's because I listen to stacks of 60s/70s instrumental soundtracks and library music and then chuck that stuff on radio mode on Spotify.

Anyway, how's that Chelsea Wolfe album?

I used to really dig Apokalypsis when it came out but have struggled to enjoy her stuff since.

This was the third or fourth year in a row where almost all of my new album listening was either jazz or familiar rock artists. It’s probably time to make a conscious effort to break this pattern, but these were probably my most played albums, no particular order. I admittedly keep way worse track of this than I used to.

Wolfgang Muthspiel - Dance of the Elders
Oded Tzur - My Prophet
Vijay Iyer - Compassion
Brad Mehldau - Apres Faure
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Wild God

Honorable mentions:
Bill Frisell - Orchestras
Pearl Jam - Dark Matter
Brad Mehldau - After Bach II
Mark Knopfler - One Deep River

Some favorite archival releases:
Bob Dylan - The 1974 Live Recordings
Miles Davis - Miles In France 1963-1964
Wayne Shorter - Celebration Volume 1

It's dark and moody with trip-hop-esque textures and some industrial-adjacent tones. A beautiful and haunting headphones album for sure. It certainly won't be for everyone, but I find her to be so insanely underrated.

Chat Pile and Fontaines DC were close. Kendrick most disappointing. No big metal album for me this year was a bummer.
Have you listened to Kim Deal´s album? Its pretty awesome
I have not. I need to jump on that. I also need to spend more time with the Beth Gibbons release. I enjoyed it but not quite a top 5.

3. Wreckage
4. Won't Tell
5. Little Joe & Mary - Khruangbin

music evolution
January - Snow Beats Lo-Fi (?)
March - Wanderlust Folkie Indie (??)
November - Film Noir Instrumental Jazz

Top Artists
1. Pearl Jam

According to my Apple Music account, Beyonce was my top artist this year. But that is not an accurate reflection of my music consumption for 2024. Please believe me.

I bet Greg? Dulli saw this as a child and never looked back.

She released the best album this year. She damn well should be your top artist!

As played as they are, “Enter Sandman” and “Welcome to the Jungle” are still two of the best buildups in all of music and are perfect for certain public events and mass gatherings.

As far as the buildup, Sandman. For the full song, I’d lean towards Jungle.

Both are really good, but I think Jungle's bridge gives it the edge.

I far prefer Hetfield's vocals to Rose's though.
