nice!

any weirdos at the campsite?
Just me!
nice

do you wake up every morning and grease up your torso with animal fat from the creature you stalked the night before and fell with a bow and arrow?
Funny. I was just talking with my daughter yesterday about going wild boar hunting with a bow. She's been stalking around the site with her toy Nerf bow and arrow set
amazing

you could also pull a fish out of the riverbed and bite into it live in an act of alpha predator triumph
Well there is a river right next to the campground. It's just a matter of time

This older couple in the coffee place has been bickering at each other for about 2 hours, occasionally rising to yelling and cursing. I think they are arguing over finances or wills or something. I get the feeling this is just how they talk to each other.

If they are doing it in public, that is absolutely how they talk to each other all of the time

I generally love this "nether zone" period between Xmas and New Year. Time is all over the place, you never know what day it is, and it doesn't really matter. And where I am the weather is warm and lovely, sunsets over the beaches and all that.

This year's a little different for me though as my Mum's been in hospital since a few weeks before Christmas and at this stage isn't looking likely to ever make it out.

Sitting here with her today holding her hand while watching the cricket with the TV muted so not to wake her. It's weirdly peaceful and nice.

Except when that bloody IV pump goes off because of a "downstream incursion" ffs. I've taken to turning the alarm off when it happens and calling the nurse - they give me "the look" as if to say 'don't touch the machines, noob' but I don't care.

I'm finding myself talking to my Mum while she sleeps a lot. No point having anything left unsaid I guess. Mostly just telling her that I love her though.

Cheers Ruddo. She's 84 and lived a good life. I'm pretty positive she'll see 2025 in but not sure how much of January she'll make.

Sitting here again now the nurse just told me I'm a "good son" and she must be a "good mother". That was nice, ngl.

Thanks guys. She was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer a few weeks ago and given 2 to 3 weeks but decided to go with chemo as it "may" give her more time. I wasn't involved in that decision but I would have argued against it (that sounds harsh but it is what it is - I certainly don't blame her for making it given what she'd just been told).

But it's not gone well and it's tough just now. She was healthy enough a few weeks ago but now, not so much. To me she just got cancer, but the reality is she's had it for a year at least and we've just found out.

But you're right Bammer - it's the good memories that count, and there's lots of those.

Again, thanks all. It means a lot.
