WASHINGTON — In three politically important Midwest states — including two that were key in deciding the 2016 election — President Donald Trump’s job approval rating is below 40 percent, and Democrats hold a sizable lead for the upcoming congressional midterms, according to a trio of new NBC News/Marist polls.
In Michigan, which Trump won by nearly 11,000 votes, 36 percent of registered voters approve of the president’s job, while 54 percent disapprove.
In Wisconsin, which he won by about 23,000 votes, another 36 percent give Trump a thumbs up, with 52 percent giving him a thumbs down.
And in Minnesota, which Trump narrowly lost by 1.5 percentage points, his rating stands at 38 percent approve, 51 percent disapprove.
What’s more, with November’s midterm elections less than four months away, Democrats enjoy a lead in congressional preference from 8 points to 12 points in these three states.
In Michigan, 45 percent of voters prefer a Democratic-controlled Congress, while 36 percent want a GOP-controlled Congress (D+9).

Apparently filed in a manner that eliminates the power to force a vote, though, which they aren’t convinced enough Republicans would go along with.

Nobody knows it's an agreement to not create new tariffs while they consider what to do next. Yay, globalism!

i think they rightly acknowledged that they have far more to lose in a spat with one another whereas in the spat with China there is potentially more to be gained long term by continuing to pressure them
definitely focused advice from Trump's more trusted economic advisers. stop ad libbing threats toward Europe - focus on Jina
wouldn't be surprised if someone spelled out for him what he personally stands to lose in a spat with Europe, vs. w Jina, too to make it resonate more

One of them agreed to buy more soybeans and LNG. The agreed to not impose new tariffs. Not sure that’s a draw. But hopefully this whole stupid trade war thing goes away quickly (and trump with it$

If Trump taking attendance of which republicans were present beforehand wasn't sign enough that this event was without true substance, Trump's track record of saying one thing and doing another leads me to believe this will go nowhere.

"And while Trump signaled that he would not impose new tariffs on European goods, such as cars, he did not take that option entirely off the table, preserving leverage in case the talks falter."

Trump has spent 123 days golfing, or 1/5 of his term, at a cost to taxpayers of $72,181,957 - and still hasn't visited troops in a war zone.

And he never will. We can’t have the danger of a war zone threaten the president. He’s too important.

Maybe I'm mistaken but it seems like the "deal" is just an agreement to stop putting up new tariffs/quotas, etc., and then an empty promise to work towards a zero tariff policy (which, incidentally talks with that aim were progressing during the Obama presidency and Trump stopped it when he took office). The EU said they'd buy soybeans and perhaps most significantly Trump signaled a willingness to work with the WTO, which is in direct contradiction to what he's been saying all this time.
Hopefully the temptation for him to stand on a stage with world leaders and be able to claim victory will be enough to avert the full effects of a catastrophic trade war that he started.

Indeed. Globalism is a tremendous force for peace and for lifting billions out of poverty.
