that cover version was nice and all but let's take it down like 10,000 notches it pales in comparison to the real thing i can't believe i have to say this.

The cover is good in the sense it was performed so quickly after the initial release, but it's nowhere near as good.

The guy did sound remarkably like modern day Eddie Vedder, so I guess that's a curious novelty.

Interesting. I thought they did a pretty good job for learning it like that over the course of a few days. I also thought it gave us a decent glimpse of how this song may sound live (without the bigger PJ production machine behind it of course).

I thought it was good, but good like in a cover band way doing a solid version of a song I like (and it's impressive they got it down so quick).

So I watched this, and there is a moment where the guy says "maybe I haven't listened to the last five years of Pearl Jams, but I don't know that I've heard a band reinvent their sound to this extreme a degree where it ended up sounding good" and I realized that it's basically Can't Deny Me. And so if that's your benchmark he might be right

I'm gonna start slowing down my listening (he says probably with no intention to actually do it) but the outro of this is one of my favorite non go for broke moments in their catalog.

had a chance to listen to this on headphones, better rested, and finally read through this whole thread. Thoughts:

- Happy for all those who are happy

- People may want to temper expectations about the rest of the album bc it sounds like this was an outlier track stylistically

- That said, the fact it was included and based on Stone’s description I think it bodes well for the overall fate of the album. I think of the Avocado sessions and how much the band sounded at ease exploring new tracks and the how much was actually left off that album. I think the story here may be one where they were more open to trusting their instincts and including stuff they enjoyed rather than overthinking it and maybe poor tracking choices

- I want to commend jorge for his level moderate-contrarianism in the face of many, many posters raising their skirts in pubescent excitement

- I think Mike’s guitar riffs are interesting

- I think Ed sounds terrible, but not as bad as most of his other work of the last 10 years. I think this is out of his range but not as bad as CDM, but interested to see how it pans out live

- I understand that the outtro layered vocals appeals to many. I never fell into the hipster/Arcade Fire movement of the last 15 years where a half dozen white people start singing in unison and little girls in the crowd feel epic. Interesting to see that PJ finally chose to mimic that tactic. Not surprising so many people like it bc so many people have terrible taste in music and enjoyed that whole hipster white privilege movement

- I give this a 6.5/10 overall - it could have been way worse. If it came on in the backround I probably wouldn’t turn it off. But other than curiosity I probably wouldn’t seek it out. I think this would have made a much better lurker/ pleasant surprise track on the album than the featured single; assuming the rest of the album doesn’t sound like this

- Gigaton Squad remains in tact, but is on momentary hiatus pending release of the track with ‘monster mccready solo’
