And We Are All Together / The Beatles Thread

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

I like A Day In the Life but I don’t understand why it regularly gets referred to as the best Beatles song.
My attempt at objective nominations would be:

A Hard Day’s Night
In My Life
Tomorrow Never Knows
Hey Jude
Something
Anders wrote:It was an interesting bracket, I voted in most rounds. Top 16 songs were:

A Day In The Life
Something
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Hey Jude
Strawberry Fields Forever
Abbey Road Medley
Yesterday
In My Life
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
Eleanor Rigby
Across The Universe
Blackbird
Penny Lane
Here Comes The Sun
Here There And Everywhere
Let It Be

Maybe an easier draw for a couple of songs made them get a little too high, but that's still a superb list of songs. Of course we all have our personal favorites. I would maybe take 14 of those, and add 6 personal favorites, for a great top 20.

Strawberry Fields Forever is probably as good a choice as any.

It’s really tough to compare the Abbey Road medley to everything else. It’s the pinnacle of Beatles music and the best ending to a band’s career in popular music history. But it’s not a song and shouldn’t be considered.

My least favorite song on the list is Penny Lane.

I’m so pleasantly surprised to see that Here There and Everywhere did so well.

I love Penny Lane. Listened to it yesterday.

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds would be the first song out of my consideration for a top list of songs.

I honestly find While My Guitar Gently Weeps to be super overrated. It’s not bad, it’s just not a top 40 Beatles song.

I came up with a top 4 fairly easily, but I'm struggling to decide on a 5th song.

Dear Prudence
You Never Give Me Your Money
Paperback Writer
Tomorrow Never Knows

I never thought of too 5 Beatles songs and the thought of whittling it down is overwhelming.

Same here. Although I would say A Day In The Life would have to be on that list.

According to my Beatles 2024 Daily Calendar, 55 years ago today, The Beatles played their celebrated Roof Top concert at the Apple headquarters in Savile Row.

Nice fact that. And soon it will be 60 years since Beatlemania in the USA.

"On February 7, 1964, Pan Am Yankee Clipper flight 101 from London Heathrow lands at New York's Kennedy Airport—and “Beatlemania” arrives."

Open-air recording session in lieu of a planned concert and for the benefit of cameras, yet mythologized as an actual concert.

Pedant alert.

When it comes to later-period Beatles live performances, I'll take what I can get.

The 2023 mixes are not bad. They were not needed either.
It's just cool to hate them.

I want to do a Beatles album ranking but I keep changing my list :haha: I can never decide on #1… it’s between Rubber Soul, White Album, and Sgt Pepper for me.

The older I get, the more I am drawn to the early stuff. At this point if I could only have one Beatles record, I’m pretty sure I’d pick Please Please Me.

That moment when the old world reveals the new one is just perfection to me…full of hope, driven by its own electrical current, and so wonderfully raw.

There’s no self-importance. No ego. Just this wonderful straddling of the things that have been great, and the things that will be.
