Or you could choose not to look at it either way. There doesn't have to be a human parallel.
its pretty heavy handed though. To the point of distraction for me.

I'll probably never see the movie. So, I don't really have a dog in this fight nor can I really participate in a debate like this. But I'll be interested to see if others who have seen the movie agree or disagree with Burt on this. Fascinating discussion.

I'm probably biased, but I think a lot of recent animated movies are far more interesting than most live action crap I've seen lately, including indie movies. Inside out was some heavy shit. Jungle Book was intense. Etc. Etc.

Are you calling Jungle Book animated or live action?

animated. its mostly CG, including the jungle, which people don't seem to realize. The line is blurry these days.

Have you seen it?
Yes. And Burt has a point about the restriction of natural tendencies. It's the human parallel that isn't sitting right with me. I think it's taking a jump that isn't necessarily there.

The moral of the story is basically you can be whatever you want to be (albeit excepting being a predator) and the protagonist is a rabbit wanting to be a cop.

I'm making a bigger deal out of it then its presented in the movie, but as its the foundation the thing is based on, it makes the whole thing strangely offbeat.

Are all of the predators antagonists? Do any of the predators aspire to being something akin to the rabbit wanting to be a cop?

Doesn't the movie make the racial parallels really obvious, though? If that's the case, I don't think we can just say "there doesn't have to be a human parallel."

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

no and yes, but they are still predators, and being a predator is evil in Zootopia, so they behave like prey (usually). In the movie, they have to deal with stereotypes of being dangerous, but they are dangerous because they are predators, and predators kill things for food (even in this universe, albeit in the past or because of a silly plot device). As a racial parallel it just doesn't work. Earlier drafts made it even more front and center.

It gets very muddled though. Its not very consistent with its logic.

Even if I were to take that at face value, it sounds like a depressing, nightmarish dystopia of shame and castration.

If it's muddy and the logic as it pertains to your interpretation is flawed or inconsistent... then maybe you're interpretation is wrong?

Of course, its a Disney movie, so its all rainbows and sunshine, but there is some BS underneath.

The predator/prey relationship and its parallels with real world race relations are spelled out pretty clearly. And its a major theme of the movie. Its not really something that could be interpreted differently. Its just that they ignore it when it suits them or they can't figure out what to write next.
