what a fantastically deliberate act of cunty sell-out hypocritical bullshitty mungchugging

this completely validates my low opinion of Ed these days. this act tells me: no, it has not just me being a whiney bitch, it is actually just that he actually has become everything that (at least I interpreted previously that) he stood against

fuck you and your corporate gigs

this should be a fucking no brainer outrage for anyone who was in to pearl jam in the early days not only for their music but for what they supposedly stood against

i could, in the modern PJ age, at least understand a corporate gig for an electric car company, or something innovative that is clearly providing a positive benefit to society in line with lofty progressive values

but a fucking CRM software company? we've seen right behing the curtain now haven't we?

I mean, technically this product could be used to help an organic granola bar company engage in hardcore cold-calling sales... but generally its used by companies with un-progressive agendas to push good old fashioned average capitalist crap

there's no justification for this gig other than his value system has become severely dulled

pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing pathetic and embarassing

oh shit my bad

emotive ramblings aside - for the purposes of academic comparison - is anyone here familiar with any of the following musical entities having engaged in corporate gigs? (my purist expectations may simply be severely miscalibrated)

The Ramones

Fugazi

Neil Young

Yeah, that's some seriously aggressive stupidity.

Oh well. At least the music was good.

Do you think that company only settled for booking Ed because the area's premiere 1980s Billy Joel cover band was unavailable?

Am I misremembering or was Ed marginally less stridently idiotic in the mid-to-late 90s?

I feel as though the whole bro-revolutionary persona was something that reached its zenith in that 1999-2003 period (or thereabouts).

And when he's an idiot, he's not half-assed about it."
in fairness, Eddie has said that about himself. So it's hard to blame him.

it was all there in 1998. I think as time went on and we got the internet and bootlegs we were just more aware of it

In defense of Ed, its not hypocritical if he isn't singing about this stuff anymore, and he isn't. I suppose he still rants here and there about it, but then again he is a raging drunk who probably doesn't know what he's saying most of the time. Most of his songs today are generic odes to love and pseudo-religious shit about waves. He doesn't seem very interested in this anti-corporate stuff anymore. The closest he gets to politics is vague anti-religious ranting, but even thats kinda tame.

What still fascinates me is what the cause of the change was. It seemed so sudden and total. Maybe marrying a model has that effect.

from the wikipedia page of the company
Salesforce.com Inc. is a global cloud computing company headquartered in San Francisco, California. Though best known for its customer relationship management (CRM) product, Salesforce has also expanded into the "social enterprise arena" through acquisitions.[4] It is currently ranked the most innovative company in America by Forbes magazine,[5] as well as number 7 in Fortune magazine's 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2014.[6]

The Salesforce.com Foundation donates 1% of the company's resources (defined as profit, equity and employee time) to support organizations that are working to "make the world a better place."[44] It was officially launched at an event featuring former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell in 2000, less than a year after the company’s formation.[45] Salesforce provides a full-featured ten-seat user license available to nearly all United States 501c3 non-profit organizations or overseas equivalents.[46] Additional licenses are deeply discounted for public interest groups.[46] As of March 2014, the Salesforce.com Foundation has donated 580,000+ volunteer hours, supports 20,000+ higher education & non-profit customers, and $53+ million in grants.
It doesn't seem particularly offensive. Maybe they support some of his causes. Or maybe it's a nice payday that doesn't hurt anyone but 96583UP

On the other hand, it REALLY hurts him, so from a simple utilitarian calculation he shouldn't have agreed to play it

I'm just disappointed that I didn't receive a 10C email about this gig.

Ed adds two more solo shows to his 30 show itinerary in a different hemisphere and my email normally goes off

Ed performs a show for the for-profit corporate entity that i value most on the planet and i am not informed ahead of time?

the only thing I love in life more than 10C merch and anything that Eddie Vedder does is salesforce dot fucking com

what a personal disaster

maybe there's still some merch i can buy to make me feel better

I heard the poster for the show was transcendent. Sistine Chapel-esque.
