I was relatively indifferent to Sugar Ray when they were popular, but their hits have proven to be an interesting study in music as a memory trigger for me. Their first few hits -- "Fly" and "RPM" -- were popular in 1997. This was a really happy time in my life and those songs fill me with happy memories now. Conversely, their next album was 1999-2000, which in my memory was an entirely different and much more depressing period, and those songs, like a lot of music that was popular around that time, give me weird anxiety. At the time I always liked "Falls Apart" the best though.

i always thought this was due to me starting high school.. not a universal feeling..

I never liked that shit, but Mark McGrath killed it on Rock & Roll Jeopardy. Mad props.

I think high school is a big part of the “weird anxiety” reaction for me too

I had no idea the name Lynyrd Skynyrd came from "Camp Granada". I thought the similar name "Leonard Skinner" mentioned in that song was just a coincidence.

Like many dads secretly do, I often listen to Lana Del Rey. As the lead single for her Chemtrails album, she released a song titled "Let Me Love You like a Woman". Middling song, got some airplay but nothing big. What makes this song interesting is that a demo version of it titled "Pink Champagne" had been identified as being a candidate for an album she scrapped nine years earlier. This demo version was eventually leaked as part of large group of tracks encompassing the scrapped album and more that had been allegedly stolen from Del Rey. Her and her lawyers attempted to DCMA the tracks wherever they appeared, but as these go the genie could not be put back in the bottle. The demo it turns out is both musically and lyrically superior to the Chemtrails version and had this not leaked a now fan-favorite might have been lost. I have no idea what made me think of this.

Anyway, she has a bunch of bangers. Nothing embarrassing about listening to Del Rey.
