I love all PJ albums but if I have to rank
VS
No Code
Yield
Vitalogy
Ten
Backspacer
Binaural
Riot Act
Lightning Bolt
Pearl Jam
BUT ALL ARE 5 STAR ALBUMS
There are 2 supersonicy punk songs (never destination and take the long way)
There are no bluesy tracks like Half Full or Let the records play.
I had Buckle Up pegged as my fav song based on the title. It was not the rocker I thought it would be.
I’ve never been able to experience a PJ release without the bias of reading reviews on boards. So that was a treat. Fuck. that opener. Once it starts it does not let go. The crowd was floored. So much energy. You can feel every single band members footprint on it. It’s huge and fun.
I see everyone enjoying this album. And Ed seems super proud of it. For very good reason. But as I’ve said before. Fuck. I gotta retool my top 10.
Cheers!
Is DotC indicative of the other songs on the album, or is it a clear outlier?
Also, does it sound DIFFERENT, or does it nestle itself comfortably next to Lightning Bolt? (E.g. is it as different as Binaural and Yield are, or is it more like Lightning Bolt?

How sizzling would you say we are talking here?
A) Low and steady enough to heat a sunnyside egg
B) Hot enough to cook a philly cheesesteak but not burn
C) Hibachi Onion Volcano Fireball

Based on the descriptions I'm most interested in Seven O'Clock...trippy mid-tempo pink floyd ballad should be right in this bands wheelhouse

DotC is on its own here. Nothing sounds remotely similar. The rest is rock, punk or Eddie songs similar to Better days. And then Buckle Up.injuddstree wrote:KidC- wrote:I can’t stress enough how good Who Ever Said is. My initial thought with hearing the first 4 tracks was “well...they’ve got 4 new show openers”

It sits alongside with lightning bolt. If there were more tracks like DotC it would have been that type of departure. Had I not heard DotC it would have stuck out like a sore thumb... PLATED WITH GOLD.
But this album is closest to lightning bolt if I had to pick.

Is Buckle Up still a good song in your view?KidC- wrote:I had Buckle Up pegged as my fav song based on the title. It was not the rocker I thought it would be.
it was described by Cohen as follows, which leaves things open to the imagination:
Buckle Up,” written by guitarist Stone Gossard, surfs a dexterous major-key guitar line and is one of the more abstract songs on the album, but serves as the perfect lead-in to Vedder’s “Comes Then Goes,” sporting Pete Townshend-worthy acoustic guitar aggression and the memorable lyric, “We could all use a savior from human behavior.”

Would you describe it as the 'logical extension of Lightning Bolt' ?KidC- wrote: DotC is on its own here. Nothing sounds remotely similar. The rest is rock, punk or Eddie songs similar to Better days. And then Buckle Up.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
It was my least favorite song on the album. But some are gonna LOOOOVE it. Mayyybe parachutes-like. Ok yes. It’s parachutes mixed with around the bend. But I love both those songs. Their baby? Not so much.96583UP wrote:Is Buckle Up still a good song in your view?KidC- wrote:I had Buckle Up pegged as my fav song based on the title. It was not the rocker I thought it would be.

But again. This is based on one listen. I didn’t like Around the bend when I first heard it.
