I loved Whiplash and thats the reason i will see it, but all this sudden love for a movie like this smells like a marketing job well done.
What love? Everybody is suspicious of and hates this movie before they see it!

If anything the marketing backfired. The movie is not what people think it is. Or it is and they hate it. It's bizarre.
Its the "It" movie of the season, and everyone "wants" to see it and " love it" because its "hip and current". Its not a movie, its just an artifact.

I will see it though, because of his director.

For the record, my aversion to this movie is not based on the marketing.

Don't see it, please.

Also, your description isn't my experience at all. Even people who like the cast & director already hate this thing. I've had a lot of trouble getting people i know will love it interested. His last film was Whiplash. This one should be called Backlash. And that's a shame. Because it's a wonderful film. A film from things like cynicism, but people need to hate things sometimes.

I wasn't a fan of Whiplash. I thought the only thing that made it mildly engaging was all the unintentional comedy.

Weird thing.

The musical that was made from Once has made more money than the film did. Won all these Tony's etc

So we will no doubt get a la la land musical.

has it already been established that once and la la land are completely different movies?
