Most of the crotchety old men I've known were actually happy 80% of the time, because they spent most of their life thinking about and rewatching shows from their youth, or listening to songs they loved growing up. It's only when expected to stop returning to their pearl jam, Star Wars, and comic book Andy Griffith and Shirley Temple collections and try new things that they get sulky.

Oh, sure. And the Boba thing was always silly but more about mystery than anything else.

Yoda probably has about 40 minutes total screen time spread out between two movies before he dies, and it's affecting. I guess with Poe I just didn't pick him up much. Like, I dig the actor, but I couldn't really describe the character.

The character is actually weak as written. He is the good , likeable guy who believes in the cause. There is no arc, no development, no conflict. so it should be completely boring (and is probably why poe dies in early drafts). Somehow Issac actually managed to take this and by virtue of this performance turn him into this guy you are just desperate to be your friend/slightly older brother.

Really enjoying things from your past hardly prevents you from liking new things. The flip side of demonizing nostalgia is making a fetish of the new. both are important parts of a balanced diet.

Imagine if Poe HAD died. Say in the scene where he flies into the interior of the base and blows it up.


People would probably be more upset about that than Han dying. Such is the love for the man.

I voted for as good as the OT. I stand by that. Having thought about this a lot after the release (and prior to it) I've come to the conclusion that I can't really rank the OT. There are things and moments about each that elevate them above their companion films.


But I'd also be okay with someone saying this is the best. It's got a pacing people may find more appealing, the effects are modernized, and while it lacks the sense of discovery that came with the OT (and the newness of it) a lot of the impact of all that is diminished if you didn't actually grow up where Star Wars was the only game in town. Plus I think the principle characters in The Force Awakens are more interesting than the principle characters in the OT. The secondary characters are certainly weaker, though

Oh man, that would have gutted me. I could watch him all day, since it's the closest I'll ever get to actually having him be my friend.

Yeah I'm hopeless at ranking the OT. Changes depending on how you feel on the day. But this is as good as them and sits comfortably in with them. None of them has to be better. I always hated ranking anyways. But getting all the effects and the look right, was gonna be easy. Making us excited and invested in the new characters was always gonna be the important and probably difficult thing to pull off and they managed to do that completely.

I'm bipolar at the worst of times but I don't feel the need to make a second account. I just can't make that sort of time commitment to schtick.
