You getting your booster? The shot you took 6 months ago doesn't work anymore.

While being trollish, what has he said that isn't more likely correct than not?

Israel is planning on (or already is?) rolling out boosters. Its been known for a while that a significant portion of the population with natural immunity has their antibodies drop off a cliff after 6 months or so. Why would the vaccine be any different?

What the CDC guidance says at a given moment =/= the truth.

The shot you got 6 months ago doesn’t not work.
It probably worked great 6 months ago. Now? Your mileage may vary. You might be great, or it might do very little for you. For some, it probably does nothing measurable.
Back this up with some data real quick.
Antibodies aren't the entirety of your immune response. Maybe your T-cells are super clued in. Don't know how you quantify that response.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6947a2.htm

They're just looking at it from tracking the infected, but there must be immune response implications
These are both old, has anything changed since then?

Unless you have newer info, I'm not sure how you missed this. It was pretty widely covered at the time. Lots of talk of re-infections and the like.
Specific to the vaccine, measured up to 6 months? Use of models to extrapolate further?

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2103916

Hmm, sounds like we don't have much data beyond 6 months
where's efficacy at now? how's it doing against severe cases?

Hearing a lot about breakthrough cases. No idea what the numerator or the denominator are.

The powers that be are arguing that the vaccine is insufficient when they push for new restrictions.

The vaccine is highly effective when we want you to take it. Its not good enough when we institute new lockdowns.

From a few pages back:

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/23/scie ... fizer.html

Efficacy is declining faster than expected against infection and getting mild symptoms but remains high against severe illness and death. The mRNA vaccines are still the single best thing we have to fight COVID, but they are not magic.

Right, the vaccine’s main job has always been prevention of severe illness or death, which it remains somewhere north of 99% effective there. So verb saying it doesn’t work, or simple saying it might do very little or nothing measurable now, is complete horseshit.

And while effectiveness against infection has dropped, it remains relatively high in the low 80th percentile or so.

Also, isn't the percentage of people hospitalized and dying over 90% unvaccinated?

Depends on who you ask. Israeli data suggest after 6 months it's in the teens which means for US folx that healthcare workers, nursing home staff, and first responders who were vaccinated in January and February are increasingly vulnerable... as will be teachers right around the time the fall weather kicks in for the northern half of the country. It's important to note here that we have no idea what the actual breakthrough infection rate is because the CDC intentionally stopped tracking that.

What I don't see being discussed much is that the 'back to normal' behavioral changes in the vaccinated... large gatherings (i.e. concerts), indoor dining, etc... are probably making things worse because collectively we don't yet understand what that fall-off in efficacy really means and we are behaving (and the authorities have been communicating) like the immunity you have two weeks after your second shot is the immunity you have forever, when that is not and has never been reality.
E.H. Ruddock wrote:Also, isn't the percentage of people hospitalized and dying over 90% unvaccinated?
Difficult to be sure, but in most places this is what the data says. In places with higher vaccination rates there will be more vaccinated people in the hospital, not necessarily because of vaccine issues or new variants, but because of math. 'Hospitalized and dying' is one stat, but there are plenty of other long term detrimental impacts from COVID people will want to avoid that are not death.

honest question. are you really this thick that you dont understand?

if you are 100% vaccinated you can still catch the virus. however you have like a 90%+ chance of only having very mild to mild symptoms. this does not mean you cant pass it on to someone you have come in contact with. that person may not be vaccinated and that person could also have very mild to mild symptoms or it can be a lot more severe

it would be easier to know who you could be around by each person having a V or a NV stamped on their head to show their vaccination status and know who is more vulnerable
