You really think Boston is a big enough market to support two teams?

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
When Pete Karmanos first bought the Whalers before he moved them to Carolina, there was heavy speculation that Detroit was going to get a second hockey team. I thought that would have been so cool.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
When it was rumored that the Expos would play a few years in Boston, I was super excited about that. Boston is the No. 6 media market in the country, so it's no slouch in regards to supporting an additional team. But since MLB orchestrated the sale of the Sox to current ownership, I can't imagine the Sox ever let this happen. Cause money.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
from where would they draw their fans? it's not like there are a lot of baseball fans that aren't already red sox fans. and i can't imagine red sox fans jumping ship to support another team (and no, you cannot root for both teams; grow a sack and pick one).

Maybe I'm mistaken on your baseball fanhood--I thought you shared some affinity between the Tigers and Cubs.Chris_H_2 wrote:from where would they draw their fans? it's not like there are a lot of baseball fans that aren't already red sox fans. and i can't imagine red sox fans jumping ship to support another team (and no, you cannot root for both teams; grow a sack and pick one).

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
I could see a combination of younger fans jumping ship, some cheering on both teams initially, and college kids (the city's population swells by more than 250,000) making up the base.
I wonder if an NL team in Boston would be more profitable vs. some historically shitty team in some small city?

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
either way, a top ten market can handle two teams
one might be the obviously dominant one, but the beta team in boston could do better than the only team in tampa

I'd rather a team go to Montreal than Boston.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
We buy a lot of media in Boston and the sales guys always tout No. 6, but, yes, a quick internet search appears that we've lost a step or two. Ha. More leverage.cutuphalfdead wrote:yeah neilsen has us at 7doug rr wrote:the internet says 7cutuphalfdead wrote:you sure?Coach wrote:Boston is the No. 6 media market in the country
