they really made me appreciate the sane Targaryeans and the effort they put into Aegon learning what it would be like to be just one of the smallfolk

Yeah, I found it quite illuminating to actually see the Targaryens in power. It also brings into stark relief what a roll of the dice a hereditary monarchy really is.

I'm really hoping GRRM reads from WoW this weekend. I'd love another sample chapter out there.

I started the series for the second time. Slowly making my way through Game of Thrones. Really have enjoyed Jon and Tyrion's chapters early on.

You should read the combined AFFC/ADWD when you get there.

Ooo, good call. Might be a pain to carry around two books instead of one, but I like the idea.

Yeah, the kindle made it easier but it's definitely worth it.

At the rate I'm going I might not make it too books 4 & 5 until mid-summer. Plenty of time for reading then though.

I feel like it will make the Feast of Crows material more enjoyable. That was a tough one to get through at times.

That was definitely where I noticed the biggest improvement, but it really aids the overall story to read it in a linear, chronological narrative. It also breaks up the never ending slog of Cersei chapters in AFFC, which infuriated me the first time I read it.

The Brienne chapters were worse.

I like the Brienne chapters. It felt so small and inconsequential compared to everything else, but I think that gave it some charm.
