That works in the moment, but what if at 21 a teen mother is stuck working part time at a grocery story b/c the father left, and she wasn't able to get the education she wanted or dedicate time to her career.

She can't look back and go, "damn, that was stupid. I should get to delete this kid and have people forget about her."

There are progressive policy solutions to this problem, like a living wage, universal basic income, universal free or low-cost child care, debt-free tuition to public colleges. I realize that we're straying from whatever weird comparison you were making, I just really want to point out that it was weird and nonsensical

My point is that a "mistake" made when you are a teen shouldn't destroy your life forever. And racist tweets are a greater indictment of one's character than a teen pregnancy. A teen pregnancy is not something a girl should be judged for, but you should at least have to reckon with your teenage racism as publicly as you broadcasted it. Teens grow up. They can learn and not be racist anymore, and then have cool powerful jobs. They can also be a teen parent and still get to go to college and have a good career and then have cool powerful jobs. Your metaphor doesn't work!

There's a reason we beat our kids in the head with the idea that they need to post a lot less and think a lot more about what they put on Twitter and Facebook. Someone who posted garbage as a teen should probably be forgiven, but what if they aren't?

That's the question isnt it? The internet is forever. FOREVER. And the killer thing here is that social context changes.. so what might be a frustrated momentary lashing out by an angry teenager and not at all emblematic of who they are today, or some stupid trend or culture meme, becomes part of their permanent record could doom them forever via employer google searches or automated background checks. So yeah... she still has job. As of right now at least. But she will be forever... forever... first and foremost associated with this cancelling attempt in any search of her name (or her future children's names) because of tweets from when she was a teenager.
