"If you're old enough to ruin your life with an unwanted pregnancy, you're old enough to do it with a bad tweet" is such a weird take.

I don't know. This woman is what, an editor? a writer? for a national magazine, and people don't like her b/c she said something racist when she was 16? People are rushing to her defense. "Oh, poor rich, affluent girl didn't land the big advertising deal!"

How must that look to a woman who's mistake at 16 was to fuck her boyfriend? Must suck.

I think it's a weird take because of how puritanical it sounds, that having sex = a mistake.

I'm not trying to shame anyone, but certainly not someone who was taking precautions and got fucked by life.

That works in the moment, but what if at 21 a teen mother is stuck working part time at a grocery story b/c the father left, and she wasn't able to get the education she wanted or dedicate time to her career.

She can't look back and go, "damn, that was stupid. I should get to delete this kid and have people forget about her."
There are progressive policy solutions to this problem, like a living wage, universal basic income, universal free or low-cost child care, debt-free tuition to public colleges. I realize that we're straying from whatever weird comparison you were making, I just really want to point out that it was weird and nonsensical
I suppose my comparison is ham-handed, but we expect teens to make responsible choices. Why do we give them a pass for saying stupid shit on Twitter?
My point is that a "mistake" made when you are a teen shouldn't destroy your life forever. And racist tweets are a greater indictment of one's character than a teen pregnancy. A teen pregnancy is not something a girl should be judged for, but you should at least have to reckon with your teenage racism as publicly as you broadcasted it. Teens grow up. They can learn and not be racist anymore, and then have cool powerful jobs. They can also be a teen parent and still get to go to college and have a good career and then have cool powerful jobs. Your metaphor doesn't work!

Alright, that's fair. I withdraw my analogy, metaphor, or whatever it was.

That's the question isnt it? The internet is forever. FOREVER. And the killer thing here is that social context changes.. so what might be a frustrated momentary lashing out by an angry teenager and not at all emblematic of who they are today, or some stupid trend or culture meme, becomes part of their permanent record could doom them forever via employer google searches or automated background checks. So yeah... she still has job. As of right now at least. But she will be forever... forever... first and foremost associated with this cancelling attempt in any search of her name (or her future children's names) because of tweets from when she was a teenager. And that, my evenbro, is the power of cancel culture and the vile bullies who execute it. The power to brand with an everlasting online scarlet A (scarlet R?), which they gleefully extend to the power threaten to brand the non-compliant.

And no, I'm not suggesting racism should be laughed-off if someone is/was young when it happened. But let's just stop with the brushing off the witch hunts, because it's not gonna go away or get better.

The Mods will move this to whatever the Bill Cosby thread is being renamed to soon but I gotta point out Numbers with the New York insider info from March 4

Female aide said Cuomo aggressively groped her at Executive Mansion
The woman's story was revealed within the governor's Executive Chamber on March 3, as staff members watched his first news conference
in the week since Lindsey Boylan published an online essay detailing her own allegations against Cuomo. In the news conference, the
governor denied ever touching any women "inappropriately."
