And we all need to have the basic understanding that words do not condone violence. Which is why speech is legal and violence is not. There are certain rules we follow that we all understand benefit us all.
We don't all have to agree. And we're not all going to agree. That makes life hard, but it also makes life beautiful
yep, absolutely

these were very like Tree's words to me a few days ago

I don't care who disagrees with me; I do care that things I think or say aren't mocked and called uneducated or unreasonable; one is debate, the other is bullying
You’re worried about being bullied while defending Will Smith going out of his way to smack the shit out of another man for making a joke he didn’t like. Wow.
Chris Rock is a bully, so yeah

if you'd call them both bullies, that's reasonable, but just Will? nah

Rock bullied, Will reacted

I have one story in my life of getting back at a bully; it's a good story lol
So jokes a standup comic makes about another person is bullying?
yes, countless shitty comedians are bullies; I watch very little comedy anymore because so much of it is based on cruelty
Wow

a Nazi is speaking hate at a Nazi rally

he gets punched and he's no longer able to chat his shit

the Nazi was violent, the person punching him did a cool thing
If it is hate speech and was inciting violence, then I can see this becoming more debatable. The motives are clearer in that scenario. When it comes to a comedian like Chris Rock, in this instance, it's just incomparable.

my original position was "Chris deserved it"

it remains the same
I can't imagine how low the bar is. You probably think more people deserve violence than don't.
it really depends on context

now for a riddle...

The kind of discourse we're witnessing on this page is neo-Stalinist, which is good, actually.
my position is communist-adjacent; Stalinist? no
Your position is not "communist-adjacent" and this is a MLG joke that was not meant for you.

no, ableism is hate speech
But you don't know it was ableism. She felt offended for such reasons, yes? But do you really believe Chris Rock was actively trying to hurt her feelings? You said before that it doesn't matter what his intentions were. Therefore, her feelings trump all, yes?

It absolutely is not. Words have distinct meanings and being vaguely on the left in the interminable online culture wars--even declaring one's self "not a liberal," though the evidence for that is suspect--does not make one "adjacent" to a discrete and historically specific political position.
