he did a visual inside the car, looked around, while commenting on the engine. checking the trunk would be fairly standard protocol for a vehicle check when there could be some risk of bomb or explosives. obviously the arians were planning on killing him, and they patted him down knowing walt could very well be trying something to revenge hank's death and/or get his money back.
A quick glance inside the car hardly qualifies as an inspection. They didnt check under the seats either. I got no sense there was an actual "vehicle check" implied. And if he was there to kill them, he would have just driven a bomb into the building. Parking a POS car with a giant machine gun set up to robo fire in the trunk probably just didn't occur to them for some reason. The aryans, as far as they were concerned had
no real reason to fear Walt.
I have a tendency to read too much into things, but I think this is key. He wasn't Heisenberg to them anymore, he was Walter White the cancer-stricken high school science teacher. They commented on his hair to point out their perceptual difference. We the audience see Walt for what he is and what he is capable of, the Aryans did not.
then why pat him down, and hold onto his keys/wallet?
i admit it is a nit. but given the circumstances, cancer or no cancer you would think they would be on alert when walt comes into their compound

As far as they know, Walt is not willing to get his hands dirty. Thats what he's hired them for. So yeah, you make sure the guy doesn't have a gun on him or a wire, but their arrogance and perception of Walt would give them no reason to think he has it in him to massacre them.

I was completely satisfied with the finale, but it was missing a little something. I'd give it a 9/10. A really incredible stretch of 8 episodes. Going to miss this show a lot.

ok...even if i give you this, what about the keys in the visor, and the police not seeing footsteps in snow leading up to the car?
these 3 things really bother me.

the Keys in the visor thing is a little weird... BUT. Having visited some college buddies in their country ass hometowns, it DOES happen in areas that aren't heavily populated. A bit of good fortune, sure, but plausible.
the footprints in the snow. My wife pointed this one out right away as well. Best i could come up with is it seems as though the police car was driving by on the passenger side of the vehicle and walt entered on the drivers side.

Definitely. Once they took the keys to the meth empire away from him, Walt was a non-issue to them.

really good finale to an awesome series. My favorite series since..maybe Lost? i dont know...pretty awesome even if it felt too much perfect.
Michael Bowen owned this last episodes, he was really really good, even for a standar bad guy.
- Spoiler: show

I was thinking the opposite. Too upbeat for me, I would have rather they kept it dark.
I lined up Sigur Ros's "Dauðalogn" over where their track started. Made a huge difference.

Trust me, in a small town people leave their keys in the visor, under the seat, and even in the ignition. We also never locked out doors in our town of 1200 growing up.

My front door is never locked and I leave my keys in my car. It's one of the benefits of living in suburbia.

If your car winds up getting stolen by a meth kingpin on his way out, you have no one to blame but yourself.

People around me leave their garages unlocked. But they also conspire to keep public transportation out so that those people (non-Jews) don't show up and make them have to start locking their doors.

I'd probably lock my door and/or car even if I lived in the Yukon.
