Am I misremembering or was Ed marginally less stridently idiotic in the mid-to-late 90s?

I feel as though the whole bro-revolutionary persona was something that reached its zenith in that 1999-2003 period (or thereabouts).

I've heards tons of shows from the 90s tours and, save for some "kill George Bush!" bluster circa 1992, he seemed generally less interested in the kind of dumb sloganeering that he was so regularly fond of in 2003.

Hell, I think there's even a 1996 show around the time of the US election where he states he doesn't mind which side of the political spectrum you find yourself, just please make an effort to be informed.

I think he certainly drifted towards (and then, more recently, away from) radicalism for a while there.

for sure the mid 90s were a lot less socially oriented. But 1998 had the manual for free living, politically minded songs on Yield, rants about the impeachment in 1998. So that all picks up again in the late 90s.
