Though he's worked on some great records, I've disliked much of Kaspar's production work, DOTU aside. Perhaps that one was a fluke.

I think a change in producers once in a while is a good thing. Brian Eno would be a really good one.

What about Michael Beihorn?

I think he helped them make their best record but I don't think they'd want him back again.

I've swapped the fantastic "Karaoke" with the forgettable "Live to Rise" on my "Originals" playlist, thus rectifying the only blemish on an otherwise impeccable program of songs.

I'm actually really surprised the disc wasn't assembled this way to begin with -- I mean, the single song on a collection of nearly 60 that stems in totality from 15 years later than any of the other material certainly feels like more of an "oddity" to me than a well-respected original song from their heyday that just happens to only have half the band's personnel present on the recording. Almost seems like the band trying to force its recent work awkwardly into their classic lexicon -- understandable I guess, but I like my way better...

Don't forget about the other two discs, KD

There are some stunners on the "Covers" disc -- I suspect their cover of "Come Together" might be a work of genius (love how they invert the roles of the bass and guitar), and their "Waiting For the Sun" cover is the most I've enjoyed anything affiliated with the Doors since probably high school -- alongside a few things I never want to hear again, and lots in between. Overall, it's cool.

The "Oddities" disc I haven't spent as much time on yet. It will get its due eventually. I would be inclined to suggest that this might have worked better as a more "mongrel-ish" comp, rather than being divided up so neatly (the covers, I think, might have gained some traction mixed in amongst originals -- as it is they feel more like novelty items), except for the fact that I think the originals disc is so strong I don't want to really think of dividing it up (except to do to it what I already did).

Overall, I am extremely happy with it. It pays the service to their discography that it aims to -- more bands should take note of this practice.

I like the transition from Big Bottom=>Earache My Eye to the first few songs of the Oddities disc. It's like once you get through the explosion/destruction of the end of that disc, you're rewarded with creation/experimentation on the next one. Pretty cool.

Yeah, karaoke is a really good song. Exit stoneenhge is more of an odditie than karaoke...

I love the instrumentals...night surf is amazing.

Live To Rise is a total stinker.

I've somewhat revised my opinion on Live To Rise

I haven't listened to either in a while but think I like Live to Rise more than I do Karaoke.

I hated LTR when it came out...i even thought it was the worst SG song ever ( that place is for Halfway There now); somehow after a while i kinda liked it...the bass...that intro..Kim`s solo at the end.

These days im loving it.

As far as "I'm starting to stabilize" songs go, though, Halfway There beats the hell out of Future Days

Perhaps the thing that bothers me the most about HT is that there is a good song there...the demo is pretty good.
I dont know why Cornell took the pop "carry on" route with it....this is Soundgarden.
