Shutting down parliament like this stops the opposition sneaking anything through that could scupper government plans.

Boris has been trying (and failing) to hide the fact that he favors a no deal Brexit (I don’t know why he wants this...it’s like a Cobra Commander-level evil plan, gainless and expensive).

Nervous about his duplicity, a majority of MPs (including 21 or so members of his own party) passed a bill that legally requires him to request an extension from the EU if no deal has been made by the deadline.

So he fired those MPs from his party, destroying his own majority. Two other ministers left his cabinet as well.

Now facing a hostile parliament, he decided to use his authority to close (prorogue) it for five weeks...meaning MPs can take no more action to complicate his efforts to push Brexit through. His government still claims that they won’t ask for an extension, which at this point is an illegal act.

So yesterday, on the last day before being sent home, MPs received word from a whistleblower in Johnson’s government that his people had been doing most of their Brexit communicating via personal devices/apps, to hide the fact that they were openly avoiding (or sabotaging) any effort at a deal. At the last minute, they passed a law saying the government must disclose and share ALL of these communications. They also turned down a proposed snap election that Boris wanted (primarily to replace his ejected members and to delay further any action against him).

Altogether, Boris has lost 6 straight votes in something like a week. By comparison, I think Tony Blair only lost 3...ever. The problem is, now he’s equal parts trapped and unchecked. MPs aren’t coming back until the Brexit deadline, his base would never countenance his asking for an extension (which the law says he MUST), and he absolutely cannot afford to ever provide those documents (which, again, the law says he MUST).

I believe the party, but this more or less forces them to step down in the next election.

The 21 have been deselected meaning theyre kicked out of the party(but they’re not) won’t be able to run as conservatives for their seats in th coming election. Except at least a few of them have been told by their local conservative branches that they will be able to run. So the Conservative party is really fractured right now under Johnson.

So the DUP are in Downing Street right now. The nation holds its breath but all the talk is they’ve outlived their usefulness.

Can Boris get it through Parliament though. It’s effectively Mays deal with that one exception.

They don’t want no deal and have legislated against it.

He presents this as the deal, they can’t really vote against it except out of revenge for all his bullshit this month.
But it’s the only deal in town.

Labour want another referendum and Lib dems now say they want to revoke and cancel the whole thing.

The absolutely do. They an many of their cohorts all stand to make an incredible amount of money betting against the British pound and businesses.

In other news here’s the DUP statement after this meeting with Johnson. Poor fools. It’s like they’ve never heard about Johnson or his famous 180s on everything that comes out of his mouth.

Build a bridge between Northern Ireland and Scotland. Yes seriously. He seems unaware of the fact it would still be a border that needs manning. And Scotland could well be gone from the U.K. and Ireland United by the time it’s finished.
Also the British have used a trench underwater right there to dump munitions and radioactive materials in. So much of it, Estimates say around 15 times bigger than Hiroshima were to go to off. Right beside gas and electricity lines.

This is literally a time bomb waiting to explode," Dr Dixon argues.

Beaufort Dyke is a deep depression 32 miles long and 15 metres wide, on the seabed between Northern Ireland and Scotland, where munitions were dumped between the 1920s and 1976. However, the scale of this hidden deposit has never been revealed by the British government.

Only last year a report commissioned by both the Irish and British governments confirmed that more weapons had been dumped than previously admitted and found that many had been deposited outside the designated area. Despite these revelations, ministers have repeatedly insisted that there is no danger to the public.
IN 1995, a British Geographical Survey of the area detected a number of "unexplained" underwater explosions, suspected to be hand-grenades blowing up, which caused thousands of highly- dangerous phosphorous flares to float ashore on the western Scottish and northern Irish coastlines. In one year alone 5,000 sticks were washed up in Scotland.

An estimated 1.17 million tonnes of conventional weapons and chemical weapons have been deposited in Beaufort Dyke. Workmen laying a British Gas pipeline to link Scotland and Northern Ireland reported detecting metallic objects on the sea bed close to the dump. They also reported underwater explosions, which prompted MAFF to order an investigation.

To be fair, the parliament has had now years to vote on a preferred deal to leave the EU.

It's not hard to form the view that many MPs were not genuinely seeking to make a workable deal and instead were trying to frustrate the process (and the will of the voting public) by engineering endless delays such that the UK never leaves the EU.

Johnson is not my preferred Conservative leader - my views are much more aligned with Rory Stewart (one of those turfed out in the recent cull) - but I am sympathetic to his predicament, as are the public if the recent polls are indicative (Conservative support rising).

Leaving the EU is a binding moral imperative; achieving this (deal or no deal) has become simply more important than anything else and the parliament are largely responsible for the current state of affairs.
