I already have a feeling that Pendulum and Infallible would have fitted much better on Gigaton....stip wrote:I want Evans to remix it now!

What a whirlwind.
OK, so to recap all the new info:
- Gigaton is the logical extension of Lightning Bolt
- All songs on Gigaton sound like DOTC
- DOTC’s lyrics are intended to support Harvey Weinstein and Jesus Christ
- Gigaton will consist entirely of anthems and spritzy punkers
Let me know if I missed anything.
Only 62 more days to go!!

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
Was looking up some info on Dolby Atmos and supporting speakers such as the echo studio and came across this.
Beyond that, Dolby claims says its partnership with Universal Music Group will deliver "thousands of new songs, current hits and legendary tracks... and feature a wide range of genres including hip-hop, pop, rock, country, jazz and classical music," and that it's working with other labels and artists as well to expand the catalog. Is surround music a thing?
So it looks like this is something that universal music may be pushing but it also sounds very promising as well. I wonder what the recording set up looked like to create the immersive sound they wanted?

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
One of the things I'm not yet clear on is whether or not there is a distinction between the way one thinks of Dolby Atmos as it relates to movies/TV, in terms of fully-immersive surround sound, and this newfangled Dolby Atmos for music compression scheme that Amazon is pushing, specifically (at least as of right now) for their Amazon Studio speaker.TheTVtalkstome wrote:Was looking up some info on Dolby Atmos and supporting speakers such as the echo studio and came across this.

As far as I know, the recent re-mixes of Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road are two of the only musical releases currently in existence that take advantage of full-blown surround. Everything else I've seen so far is in reference to this new Amazon technology.

So this album won’t sound cool unless I invest in some expensive stereo equipment?

In think it was mixed, at least for that presentation, in that format. Its not a recording technique.
Still the single sounds awesome, and it seems there are a few other songs who will benefit from the same sound. I love what that article describes...some of them sound very promising. I am kinda worried about this one being close to LB...i get thats more because some songs stand out, but still...the production of that album is just awful....these new songs seem to have more in them than any of the LB songs...

Seems like we may need an Amazon Studio speaker to hear it in that way, but that hasn't been confirmed yet, spike.spike wrote:So this album won’t sound cool unless I invest in some expensive stereo equipment?
The irony here is that the Amazon Studio is ostensibly a mono speaker which pulls off some sort of digital signal processing voodoo to unleash its magic; I've not personally heard it yet, as I'm not really a fan of the notion of having a smart speaker in my home, especially since I'm fully aware that a court order will one day mandate that our private recordings get handed over to the authorities after my wife inevitably murders me.
I swear I can see her taking notes daily while watching Forensic Files. I'm fully convinced she will one day commit the perfect crime.
Anyway, please buy the speaker & let me know how it sounds, preferably before she murders me....thanks!

Sirens is a fine song but top 10? jesus man. i can't figure you out!KidC- wrote:Sirens is in my top 10. But for me. Lightning bolt ends after pendulum. The hidden track is the bridge of yellow moon. And it is fantastic.evenslow wrote:awesome. how do you square that with it sounding like lightning bolt?KidC- wrote:The album is incredible. There are clear standout tracks that will rank amongst the best in PJs catalogue. DOTC is one of them. Keeps getting better and better. Also. The production is going to unfold more and more with each listen. As it has been doing with DOTC. I’m a huge fan of the band’s studio work and I had high expectations for this album. Some tracks surpassed those expectations.scrub12 wrote:I remain optimistic because DOTC is great and the production rules.

yes but it'll be soulful and powerful and like humans are playing it on instruments and not a computer algorithm.theplatypus wrote:But "River Cross" doesn't sound like it is guitar-driven. gaspMikeyIsGod wrote:i am. imagine a guitar-driven band putting out guitar-driven songs. all of this sounds excellent. looking forward to River very much. how bout that kalimba!?WtOB? wrote:at least mikeyisgod will be happy. maybe he can keep his room messy after all.
