I didn't mind his character. Sometimes I like weasel-y one-tone villains that are easy to hate. That speech just came out really over the top. I get the feeling there's a bit of a competition between himself and Ren for teacher's favorite, but still...

I love one note villains, but he was just so silly.

I like the idea of the power struggle....I just dont think it was delivered very well in TFA. Though i do think it could be fleshed out in an interesting way. I look forward to it.

And also, he could just be doing the weasley immature thing on purpose as the First Order may be a young organization at this point

so what about han just blasting into hyperspace right from his freighter without any planning or any entering of any coordinates?

- a pretty dangerous move, as han himself told us in the first movie (and common sense tells us anyway)
- how fortunate was it that he had the falcon pointed right at maz's planet?

The documentary on them building the forest lightsaber battle between ren and rey is great. Such a beautiful set they created. Would love to be there in person myself!

Did they say he wasn't entering coordinates? I thought the danger was him launching into hyperspace from within the hangar.

Besides, isn't the fact that it's "impossible" mentioned in the dialogue of that scene?

Maybe he just flew out someplace and then stopped and put in new coordinates, or maybe you can alter coordinates while you're in hyper space? I tend to not be bothered by issues like that where it is entirely possible that there's a plausible (with the caveat that the light speed idea makes no sense in the first place) reason for something that happens off camera, or the fact that it doesn't make physical sense is not something that impacts the larger story or character motivations. I was swept up in the scene. The logistics of it didn't cross my mind until later (until you brought it up, actually)

not a major thing. but in 'star wars', there's that bit where han tells luke that "traveling at lightspeed ain't like dusting crops" and that, if they don't put the proper coordinates into the navi-computer, they could end up flying into a star.

oh sure, but they also do say that whatever Han was doing was incredibly dangerous. I figure what happened was that after they took off he quickly took the time to enter in proper coordinates or something. One of those details I don't need to see.

I would imagine that if they were going to a hostile area, such as a death planet, they would have planned ahead and had a route pre-programmed in case they got into a pinch and needed to escape quickly.

Far as I can recall there are hyperspace lanes and 'highways' that are lined with beacons throughout the Galaxy so it's up to the ships navicomp to make adjustments in flight as beacons are passed and for any direction changes. His big freighter was pointed that way so maybe that's where they were headed next? Or Maz's planet is a saved setting in the Falcons navicomp?
