I don't think the lyrics deserve much analysis on Supersonic, but what the hell does EV mean by:
I'm not the paper, I'm more like the fold
Cut the crease & put the shit in the hold (or is it hole?)

I've never disliked those lines, even in my hatred. He's not the paper, or the message written on it, he's the action of folding the paper, cutting the slip off and posting it through the hole.
That's how I interpret it, anyway. It's far too clever for a silly song, but it basically saves the song.

I think you've nailed it.

Makes sense. I think it's just hard top develop a metaphor from those lines when they follow:
Yeah, I been thinkin' I already know
Nothin' 'bout nothin' or so I have been told, yeah

Not really, because those lines are about what he's learned, and he's learned that he knows very little except that we have to act, politically and everything else, and be proactive. The following lines draw on that. The way that the lines change from talking (first two lines) to doing (the imagery in the next two lines) is quite clever.

I agree. It's got a Big Waveesque feel but it's ok.
A lower-tier PJ song for sure, but way better than Big Wave. That breakdown in Supersonic is pretty badass.

If 'Let The Records Play' has a better chorus than Supersonic lyrically, but is otherwise pretty similar, I'd be OK with that.

You're probably right, man. Sometimes though, despite all of our interpretations and theories, only EV really only
truly knows what he means
(probably). That's the beauty of his art.

We can never really know what any artist means with anything they do, but it's good enough if we can interpret what they give us. That's the point I think. Otherwise the albums would come with instructions.

Never thought to analyze Supersonic, but you guys got me to listen back to it.
My interpretation: He's talking about putting a vote into the ballot box. He views himself not as the candidate or the voting 'machine', but as the one who has the freedom to make the choice. When the paper is folded, the choice has been made and action has been taken. The whole song is pretty throwaway, so I doubt there's too much depth to it, but we all know Ed likes to infuse politics into most songs nowadays.

Good point. If the Avocado album came with instructions, it would say:
Caution: Loud, crunchy, badly produced music.
1) Put into CD player.
2) Listen to for a while.
3) Get disappointed.
4) Get more disappointed.
5) Become disillusioned.
6) Masturbate alone, crying.
7) Throw CD somewhere and forget about.
8) Repeat step 6.

This is a pop song and there's no time to sound deep, but for what it is, it's pretty clever.

I think its:
cut the crease and put the shit in the whole
as in he's the dividing line between to halves and wants it all to become one

That's what I used to think but it makes less sense. Put the paper in the paper? Put the shit in the paper, then put the paper in the paper?

its hole. he's reading the paper on the toilet and making it easier to read by folding it multiple times.

Are the lines in fact about going to the toilet? Maybe he's not a scruncher.

That's what I had originally, but edited it because I thought I had it wrong. This is probably one of those blurry lyric issues like
violins/violence in Daughter. Maybe it's purposely that way, so the listener can decide for themselves.
