Re: First Single from #10: Mind Your Manners
its got more bite than anything on Backspacer, and isn't as raspy as ST. its just right. Its no Hail Hail, and its that standard PJ rocker sound, but I like it.

It's too slow for the type of song it's trying to be.

So you're saying Save You is better than MYM? Because that's the only "rocker" on RA.cutuphalfdead wrote:There are a few "rockers" on Riot Act that are easily better than this.stupidmop wrote:I.......like it. Probably thier best rocker since binaural.

But I do want to smack Matt around a bit and tell him to play something inspiring.

I meant fast agressive rockers then. I assume you mean cropduster or something? Which i do prefer. My mind sorts that into a different category, idk what though. It's better than save you, which is a more agressive song. I'll have to see where it settles alongside the s/t 'rockers' after more than 2 listens lol.cutuphalfdead wrote:There are a few "rockers" on Riot Act that are easily better than this.stupidmop wrote:I.......like it. It's not mindblowing or anything and I do agree that this isn't my favourite type of pearl jam song, but we'll have to wait and see if the album has any of that. But for what it is i like it.
I selected 'its okay'

Not as focused or hook-laden as s/t was, though. Maybe it's underwritten, or just so fun to play they never turned around to consider how it sounded to other ears.
If it weren't for that great bridge, it'd be a big sloppy "Pearl Jam's fantasy camp dream is to be an 80's punk band" thing.

Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
I mean, I like it, it's good, but I think it could've been so much better if they hadn't tried to rein it in and keep it MOR.
At least it doesn't sound like the Foo Fighters.

Its decent.
Sounds like a combo of Comatose & Ole. Its a good lead single. Much better than The Fixer. If this is ultimately the weakest track on the album, that's a very good sign for my ears (a la I've Been Away Too Long). I don't know how Ed will be able to pull this off in concert though. It could be really rough.

Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
It's good. Perhaps very good. Need to wrap my head around it. Anyone saying anything definitive after one or two listens is foolish. Or a poster on RM.
I will say I do initially like it better than the fast-ish stuff on Backspacer.

Yeah, I'm still fantasizing about an album full of that kind of thing. I don't know if they have a "sweet spot" anymore, but for me this definitely isn't it.Thurman Murman wrote:I like it...pretty much in line with what i was expecting out of their lead single.
That said, this isn't really the type of music i'm excited to hear from these guys at this point. Give me another Nothing As It Seems over the 3 minute rocker anyday.

I imagine we're learning a lot about the production, here, too. I know that streaming, poor quality audio is not the best presentation to be judging from, but you don't need a good presentation to be able to pick out the artifacts that announced "hello, I'm smashed to shit."

Re: 10th album rumors and speculation
I was hoping the new album would be more like "Of The Earth," which is...I dunno, music that likes exploring "space"? It's weird and hard to describe. I think this song is pretty good, but just not that interesting. I just hope that doesn't preclude anything like "Of The Earth" from being on the record.

can't sum up the whole album with this one song. had i only heard "Breakerfall" from Binaural, I would have never guessed it also housed "Sleight of Hand" or "NAIS"Simple Torture wrote:I was hoping the new album would be more like "Of The Earth," which is...I dunno, music that likes exploring "space"? I really, really like this so far. I wasn't expecting to be this into it. We'll see if it fades, but right now I am really fucking happy with it. This is way better than I was letting myself expect.
I second whoever it was who said the bridge into the solo is great. That's the best part of the song. That's the moment that really clinches this song for me. Nothing in the world beats a good bridge.
