It's a single, it's silly to not hear it - the band intended for it to be heard divorced from the album context. Everyone listened to Mind Your Manners, what's the difference?

it's not..

i think what we have here, are 2 different groups that sort of intertwine with each other.

one group who won't listen to leaks of unreleased songs.

another group who won't listen to anything and experience the album as a whole.

i think most of us probably belong to both, but to varying degrees. i'm fine with listening to any officially released songs that they present us before the album, but i also want to have a good experience listening to the album as a whole. i think we can confidently say there won't be a 3rd single before the album is released, so i'm ok knowing 2 songs when i listen to the album for the first time... but i wouldn't want to know more than that

For me the anti-leak is about experiencing the music as a whole album, in the same quality, in the proper sequence and with fresh ears (and fresh perspective).

I have powerful memories of buying Vs the day it came out and rushing home to hear it all for the first time (except for Animal which had been played at the MTV awards). That first listen of Vs was the moment for me, and I like to recreate the same experience of discovery with each album.

No, I'm not accusing you of failing; I only capitalised that because I just remembered you were in the club and was suddenly really interested in what you thought. We need new opinions. A single isn't a leak at all.

Sorry for the confusion folks. IMO any officially released thing isn't a leak.

right, so won't go into detail here b/c some folks are in hiding until the 15th, but i wanted to suggest they listen to the new single if they had read contrary advise from others and felt turned off.

For me it's just about preserving the manner of experience an album that I am comfortable with and maximizes my enjoyment. Growing up in the 90's, when you were anticipating an album you had a single (sometimes two) that you dove into before the album was released. That process gave a definition to how I dug into albums I spent months looking forward to.

When the Manics were getting ready to release Know Your Enemy in 2001, four songs leaked from it a few months before, and I gladly jumped on them. They ended up playing another four or five on the radio before it came out, and I made it a point to find copies of those online as well. When the album actually came out, I realized I'd already become familiar with more than half of it, and it definitely put a damper on an experience that I had fallen in love with. After that, I've always stuck to "Is this something I would have had access to in advance of an album when I was a kid?" as a rule of thumb. It works for me, and I never really find myself wanting to "cheat." I don't begrudge people who jump on everything immediately, or those who do the complete opposite. I hope everybody does what works best for them.

That being said, I do think it's kinda cool to see I'm not the only person who feels this way.

I get that. it's a bit disappointing that I've heard half the record already. But in this golden age of red mosquito I think that's offset by the enjoyment I've gotten talking about these songs during their first appearance

Without naming names, a former poster here (who acted like a dick to all new members) made a great song and dance about how the radio station would never play WWS and ended up with egg on his face. Ahh good times

Oh, I'm not in the "no leak" club - at least, not deliberately. I'd happily listen to the whole album if it leaks in FLAC before release date.

That was a great day. WWS remains, to this day, my favorite 1st listen ever
