Having kids is definitely a mistake, especially as a teenager

Eh, they'll be dual citizens so they'll already have a leg up when the water wars start.verb_to_trust wrote:Your kids are going to have a hard life Mickey.Mickey wrote:Is that what your parents have told you?

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good dissertation in critical race theory at your side, kid.McParadigm wrote:The Carano thread surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

So this happened today: Co-worker above called me to report that someone else in the company, using company email, sent her a pronoun joke and she feels very attacked. Likened it to a racial or religious slight, and on that point I agree with her. Totally inappropriate. But now I’m just like ... uh what the fuck am I supposed to do with this. She didn’t give me the person’s name. I didn’t ask.Bammer wrote:I noticed the first person at my company starting to identify pronouns in their email signature.
I rolled my eyes so hard I gave myself a migraine.
PS - Burt, put this shiz in the Star Wars forum.
Haha just realized the merge. I wondered why the cancel thread suddenly doubled in size. It’s not in the star wars forum, but this will work.BurtReynolds wrote:WTF WHERE IS MY CARANO THREAD

Isn't this what you wanted?B wrote:I should make a thread for Scouting stories, but anyhow, here you go.
Our Scouts have been singing a song around the campfire to the tune of "What do you do with a drunken sailor?" with lyrics switched out for a femme boi. Now, I'm not certain of the lyrics b/c every boy singing it (we're a coed Troop, but only the boys sang this song) suddenly couldn't remember the lyrics when I asked them what the lyrics were. They could only remember the gist. But something like ...
What do you do with a drunken femme boi?
Put him in a wig and bend him over.
Smack him on the ass, early in the morning.
So, anyhow, we stopped the song under the stance that it's gay bashing. And I know, a "femme boi" isn't necessarily just a gay boy, but we have a trans Scout, gay Scouts, "effeminate" boy Scouts, and "masculine" girl Scouts, so who it ACTUALLY bashes or mocks is irrelevant.
Anyhow, one of the boys pulled a "I'm bisexual, and you're a cis-gendered, straight father, so you don't really have the understanding of gay issues to tell me that I can't sing that song."
Mrs. Bam had similar adviceBi_3 wrote:Bammer wrote:So this happened today: Co-worker above called me to report that someone else in the company, using company email, sent her a pronoun joke and she feels very attacked. So, not a lawyer here, but if it were me I would report this up without disclosing names and ask for a generic reminder of anti-harassment policy to be sent out. The victim could be asking for help or believe it is now your responsibility to act on the compliant (and many companies have policies that explicitly talk to each employee having a responsibility to act on harassment whether involved or not to safeguard those who are victimized but unwilling or unable to speak up), so you should act quick if you can, especially if you agreed on the phone it was akin to an attack against a protect class. Even as a joke it is totally unacceptable in the workplace and opens the door for potential legal action.
