What are you wearing to this gig? And will you move more than if you were at a Vancouver Pearl Jam show?

There’s a surprising amount of parity in the AFC this year. The playoff hunt is going to be interesting.

Question: I don't think I've noticed this in other NFL games -- I haven't watched them like I watch the Dolphins -- but I notice quite often the play clock on the screen hits zero just before the ball is snapped. Have you noticed this? Is there a rule that it's not delay of game for some reason? Or is the play clock on the screen inaccurate? Or or the officials failing to make the delay of game call?

Typically, there's a .5 second or so buffer that the officials allow. It doesn't really make sense, but it's consistently allowed.

This has come up a couple of times during national broadcasts this year, and each time the in-studio officiating consultant confirmed that there is sometimes a lag time between the clock hitting zero and the ball being snapped where the official doesn't blow the whistle.

The inconsistencies are frustrating. As a player, you're thinking "Welp, they aren't calling holds strictly today so I'm gonna make hay while the sun is shining"... and I don't like that that is such a huge part of the game. But of course you can't blame the officials; it's impossible to notice everything all the time.

Surely it's possible to implement technology that could analyze everything on every play to see if anyone broke any rules. Can't be that difficult of a feat today. At first there would be a LOT more calls, but then players would begin to prioritize abiding rules more.

I like the inconsistency/variance from game to game as long as it is called consistently for each individual game. So many calls have a level of subjectivity to them.

So with this infraction-catching software, you can adjust the sliders before each game to keep it feeling fresh -- turn up the pass interference, turn down the delay of game, etc.

Vegas odds now show Brock Purdy as the favorite to win MVP at -200.
