Yep... very annoying if someone's doing a delay-infested solo on top of your rhythm, and they're paying no mind to the rhythm. As far as I'm concerned, if the guitarist doesn't care about the rhythm behind him that's bad enough, but adding delay makes it worse.LetMeSleep wrote:It's just the solo at 2 points. Perfectly tempo-matched delay can be cool in the right context but it's not really my thing.
The live version really doesn't sound bad at all to me.

It's not in the live version, no. It's in the melody of the last section, over the "fear goes away" lyric.HardTI wrote:Damnit, harmmy! We're losing you! Where is the xylophone in here? Is it not in that live version?harmless wrote:There are things I don't like about it. Up to the pre-chorus it's amazing. Random thought: Stone is STRONG on this song. Lots of rhythmic things butting up against each other and what not.
But mostly I'm just getting upset with myself because I'm not enjoying trying to constantly analyse and reconcile the tension between my distaste for BO'B and my enjoyment of these songs. This album is going to be a very good album written by a bunch of happy guys without the time or inclination to make a great album.
My ultimate feeling about it will depend on how happy I am about that.

thing is, the studio solo was clearly made to have a tempo-matched delay in order to repeat licks - Mike somewhat ignored this feature or realized he fucked it up while they recorded the video take and decided to make the best out of the situation and i think that it turns out well (as far as the delay effect goes but the ending just sounds botched and that's because of the notes he plays).harmless wrote:Yep... very annoying if someone's doing a delay-infested solo on top of your rhythm, and they're paying no mind to the rhythm. At 3:47 he is early and it is a faster BPM. The end of the solo isn't as bad.Thejambi wrote:In the video he is matches with the high hat speed, studio on the snare/Bass beats.harmless wrote:Only heard it twice so you might be right.Thejambi wrote:I don't find it that awkward in the video. Okay you don't hear it be out too much but I do. Enough that it shits me everytime. It obviously wasn't a problem for TeamPJ, nor was Matt's sloppy fill during the intro nor Boom's lazy run in verse 2.Thejambi wrote:Yeah i hear him slightly off but dont think its faster.

From a long time guitar player (if that even makes a difference), I love his solo on the video version. I actually get goosebumps when he switches guitars and tears into the first few notes.LetMeSleep wrote:Okay you don't hear it be out too much but I do. Enough that it shits me everytime. Mike gets a lot of shit for wanking and I've heard people say they prefer Stone's solo's for the "feel". And now we're talking about if one of his solos is "slightly" off? I just can't understand it. Mike is an awesome lead guitarist; 99.9 percent of bands out there would kill to have a guy of his caliber in their group.
To me, the solo sounds awesome and is one of my favorite parts of the song. Instead of actively looking for things that is wrong with it why not just enjoy all the things that are right?
