my brother-in-law left an old console system at my house and I finally replaced the needle. works good now except it plays records at a speed slower than it's turned too... for example, to play 33 1/3rd, I have to set it to 45 and to play 45s I have to turn it to 78. is there a way to fix this? I guess it's not that big of a deal since I don't own any 78's, but would like the option if I ever were to come across any.

Is it belt-driven? Maybe the belt is threaded wrong? I have no idea if that would lead to what you're describing, just a theory.

It is not belt driven. There is a rubber disc that it spins on, I'm wondering if the rubber is just worn out? Maybe something shifted in it throughout the years that threw off the speed controls? I dunno. It's a cool piece, so I will still use it.

That's an idler drive. If it's in an old console, I'm guessing it's a Garrard?
The speed stops are usually set by loosening a screw and moving them to the right position and then re-tightening. This would be achieve with the help of strobe disc to dial in the right speed before you retighten.

The other possibility is that the speed labels (possibly stickers?) are just in the wrong place :)

it's an RCA... I will give that a try. I have absolutely nothing to do this morning and afternoon except cook up some ribs and listen to music; working on my secondary turntable sounds like a good idea as well.

well, I got the speed switch working. I have no idea what I did. maybe it was just some dust or dirt in there that got knocked loose when I took it apart. However, now it is playing slightly slower than it should. This thing is becoming a big pain in my ass. Oh well, all it cost me was a few bucks for a new needle.

logged on this morning to soundstagedirect.com to find that my entire wish list (100+ items) had been "lost" with their transition to a new website. WTF, beyond pissed.
I would have expected more from them.

Upon drunken inspection this record is to be played at 45rpm. How annoying...

Yeah I'm not used to being intoxicated.....

That record sounds great. Probably more like a Twilight Singers record but that's okay.
