Sorry VG, just seeing this. It's a great read. A chronological history that digs deep into the scene. Not an officially authorized biography, but he had tons of access to the band and it was written before Kurt died, so it's not colored with baggage besides what was actually going on.

Looking forward to this new annotated version that Azerrad is promoting now. It will be interesting to read his post-mortem on it all. Additionally, over the course of my own life, I've absorbed a ton of their influences myself, so it will be cool to go over it again now that I'm familiar with a lot of the other bands/people referenced. It's fun to just jump on a streaming platform and hear a Wipers album after reading about the much Kurt liked that sound, for instance.
Spoiler: show
I know...so punk rock, right?
Good to know. I never cared to actually read a full book about them, but these days i do appreciate to read about those bands. Still both Grunge is Dead! and Everybody Loves Our Town kinda cemented as the true books of the era for me. I do wanna buy the Mudhoney one.

Interesting, maybe they can use ai to substract guitars and vocals from 'talk to me' live take. Ai can enhance both and krist and dave can re-record their part. Blasphemy? Maybe. Will I buy it..probably.
Thats a good read. I hope they never do something like that. If they want to release more music as Nirvana, just jam with other artists, maybe Lorde, St Vincent, or others but AI? nah

Nice to listen to Dave not try to be the funny guy and just answer and talk about the past.
Hearing Krist talk and laugh about Kurt's busted up toy guitar he would use while singing his lines was a poignant moment.

Kurt's guitars are kind of the unsung heroes in Nirvana lore, aren't they?

Also -- Annie Clark is probably the only vocalist on Earth that could work for a Nirvana 2.0 reboot. Her Rock & Roll HOF performances made me a believer.

In terms of talent? yes of course. She could even be a part of writing music. I was surprised with Post Malone singing Nirvana song in that video he did over the pandemic too. And i wouldnt rule Lorde out too, even is it seems like a weird choice, she could be awesome in a more downbeat song.

I like In Utero more than Nevermind. But it's sort of like picking between two orgasms. But it's like tacos and pizza. Both are great.

Impossible to really know. Nevermind is very direct and it has so many good songs. In Utero is a little more difficult but thats what could make it better.

We can agree that both of them are better that Bleach.

Songwise I enjoy all of Nirvana’s stuff more or less equally at this point, but I like the sound and general feel of In Utero more than that of Nevermind.

Listening to the audience recording of Seattle 1/8/94 today. Granted, it’s a great audience recording, but it’s amazing how much more pleasing of a listen this is than the AI-mixed tapes from the new box — organic, ambient, easy on the ears. Thankful that stuff like this is out there.

I'm with KD in that I rate the Nirvana catalogue pretty consistently, I simply love everything they did.

Kurt was a unique talent and I wish we'd had the opportunity to hear more of his work.

Anyway, when I'm in the mood to hear some Nirvana these days, I'm most often inclined to throw on Bleach. That second side absolutely slaps: Negative Creep into Scoff into Swap Meet!
