I don't think Halfway There is that bad.
I think I agree that the demo is better. That's funny though, you think Kim and Ben let Chris off the hook too easy with that one.

Cornell vocals are much more dark than in the album version.
Hell Sg demos are pretty incredible as stand alone songs too.

Those Superunknown demos are great, man. I want demos of other stuff too.

You dont think Kim and Ben hate that song?

I think they might be ok with it. But yeah, I agree that's not where Kim and Ben typically want the sound of the band to be, which is a good thing.

Maybe they should just shoot for a no-Cornell-songs album next time around.

Oh yes, but it would be an interesting angle.

I am a bigger Soundgarden fan than a Pearl Jam fan; been a fan of the band since '88. I feel that (in this exact order) Kim, Ben and Matt need to sometimes veto Chris on tunes like the polished version of "Halfway There" in place of,the demo version. Chris is the main songwriter, and for good reason but this band has great songwriting chemistry all the way across the board which makes Soundgarden so unique.
I hope Kim and Ben step their songwriting presence on the next studio release, and that goes for Matt as well.

One of DOTU's biggest strengths is the amount of Ben tunes, for sure. And the one song Kim got on there is great.

My hope is that Kim writes more between KA and whenever they record the next one than he did between DOTU and KA.

Kim was extremely luke warm on DOTU; he felt the Soundgarden was going away from Soundgarden, and that his musical input was falling on deaf ears (Chris in particular). It wasn't the best of times, and according to Matt, it started from day one in the studio.
I firmly believe that the band has learned from that experience, and have since moved on from it (even though it took them 16 years to do so).

DOTU was great though, at least for me. It's pretty much a masterpiece.
But yeah, you always gotta move on.

By no means is it easy to put a studio effort together after being more than a decade and a half apart musically; one would think that the songwriting chemistry would be lost over that period of time - I do not believe that was the case with Soundgarden.
There is lots of awesome music from them that is yet to be realized and recorded. And with Matt Cameron's full commitment to the band for 2015, this should all come to fruition this year!

Yeah, seems like an optimistic time for fans of the band. It's nice.
