I was more laughing at the choice of words as they sounded kind of stilted. I get that they voted for it and they should just do it and see what happens.

Though I also anticipate a referendum of "should we rejoin the EU" in a handful of years time.

I guess I’m the opposite. Americans vote all the time on initiatives to repeal state laws that they themselves voted to pass as recently as a few years prior...especially in circumstances where they are dissatisfied with the results. I can’t really make sense of the idea that the will of the voters should not face the scrutiny of...the will of the voters.

Referendums are very unusual in a parliamentary democracy and incredibly rare at a national level in the United Kingdom (three held ever, including the Brexit vote).

I don’t recall that I’ve heard anyone I took as influential suggesting MPs can or should overturn it themselves. It’s all been about whether or not a second referendum is reasonable.

It was an advisory referendum run by dark money with something like 240 leave ads per person per day in terms of Facebook outlay. It was ran entirely on lies and misinformation.
So in the real world it should be run again on that alone and the bad actors and money prevented from taking part. But it would make no difference. The only way another referendum will happen now is if the Labour or lib dem parties get into power and revoke article 50, and hold another one with clearly defined outcomes.
Thereve been a million 18-25 year olds have registered to vote in the last month. 200,000 in the last month alone.
They’d predominantly vote to remain if the breakdown from the last vote is a guide.


At this stage I want them to leave. In whatever form it takes. Cold dose of reality and dire consequences for us all.
They’ll learn not to ever again be so easily lead down the garden path by rich charlatans like farage and Johnson and Mogg.

This is big. No idea what happens next though. They’re forced back to parliament hopefully

Nothing on earth is funnier than a nation obsessed with rejecting outsiders and governing itself ultimately being lied to by its government and then saved by someone else.

The story here isn’t the majority want a United Ireland. Shift is towards that anyways. . It’s the ~10% jump in unionists in favour of a United Ireland among unionists polled.

no, that's actually going to happen more as the circumstances get more complicated. I'm going to find the article I was reading about it.

For me, this is like the Lib Dems in the coalition. The only promise they ended up keeping was the promise to talk to the Tories if the Tories got more seats than Labour did. Now, the only thing that matters is Brexit. Leaving the single market when we never had a vote to? Yeah. Leaving the customs union when we never had a vote on that either? Of course! And as James O'Brien (I'm not his biggest fan) said, "the whole argument in favour of No Deal is that the people who believed the Leave campaign over the Remain campaign when it comes to whether or not we should leave or remain, also believed the Remain campaign over the Leave campaign when it comes to whether or not Brexit means No Deal Brexit". The ERG voted against May's deal, they have no right to have a go at anyone for doing the same. The black mail was "my deal or no deal", and people didn't give in to it. Tough, you can't just shut down our democracy and lie to the Queen because you've thrown your toys out the pram.
