I really hoped it would be the Nevada school I had in mind when I saw the headline, and I was not disappointed.

Kind of a new "one drop" rule.
How could the school prevail if this were a workplace? Seems pretty clearly a hostile environment based on protected status.

Not sure how things change in an educational setting.

I can't comment on this class specifically, which wasn't part of the curriculum while I was uhh...nearby. I think there are certainly ways to teach a "Sociology of Change" class which rigorously attends to historical social movements and even incorporations standpoint epistemologies as part of its analysis without creating a hostile environment (which, to be fair, is only alleged here). But this school and this charter system is a top-to-bottom scam. The director (Johnson) is a real piece of shit, and the entire operation is predicated on taking Teach for America members or recent grads, working them 100 hours a week (shit like being availabe by phone to parents seven days a week until 9 pm), and paying them dogshit wages even compared to the already low starting salary for teachers in Clark County. So it is 1000% believable that this was a garbage class led by, at best, an exhausted and ill-prepared teacher, and while this smacks of right-wing bullshit the lawsuit couldn't have happened to a nicer group of people.

For a moment I wondered if you maintain a list of your most loathed charter schools in every state as a hobby or something.

Recent college grads/ Teach for America being into CriticL Race Theory wouldn't be particularly unusual.

Would argue that this is less of a content problem and more of a "amateurification of education" problem.

Did some googling and she's 22, which means she's a first year teacher and almost certainly TFA. A well-run organization might not have someone with zero experiencing teaching a mandatory year-long class on one of the most sensitive topics you can imagine as part of a high school curriculum, but alas.

I understand your argument, I was just saying the allegations seem plausible.

Separate from your argument, doing things in the most hamfisted way is pretty popular at some of these institutions. See: shooting teachers with airsoft guns during active shooter drills.

According to Google, McDonald's has 213 lawyers. If this is their diversity, than 2.3% of their lawyers are women, 0.5% are black, 1.4% are gay, and 0% are Hispanic.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Chris McCarthy, the president of MTV Entertainment Group and overseer of numerous ViacomCBS cable networks, believes such language contributes to a stigmatization of mental health and leads to fewer people seeking help. So he's about to offer a rare mea culpa - and undertake an ambitious plan to remake programming at MTV and sister units including Comedy Central, VH1 and even Paramount Plus.

"Having reality stars say someone is 'really messed up'- well, that's not the proper way to reflect that story. It sends the wrong message about somebody's mental health," McCarthy said in a phone interview, adding he believes it makes people less likely to take struggles seriously in their own lives. "We need to do better."

McCarthy says the timing couldn't be better to take on a sadly timeless challenge, with mental health again in the headlines: Meghan, duchess of Sussex, recently said during a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had had suicidal thoughts, and studies show that depression levels have continued to rise during the pandemic.

His plan, expected to be announced Thursday by ViacomCBS, is to turn all negative portrayals of mental-health challenges on his networks' shows to positive ones, then double those number of instances. Instead of characters slinging around clinical terms in an argument, for example, they'd acknowledge a person is struggling and want to know more. Such portrayals would make viewers feel more comfortable with their own conditions, McCarthy said, and do more to combat them.
What exactly is modern comedy if not jokes about the comedian's own mental health?

Comedy Central recently canceled its highest rated show, Tosh.0. They now just run reruns of South Park, the office, and roasts. It’s pretty lame
