Re: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
i'm liking this movie less as time goes on. all of the rehashing and plot holes that i was able to overlook earlier, i'm not able to overlook them as easily now. had to change my vote (again).. dropping down to 'better than the prequels, not as good as the originals".
i'm almost at a point where i wish lucas was involved somehow.. at least to provide a basic outline of a story.
still looking forward to seeing where it all goes from here though.

The nine people who voted "Best of all the films" need to come forward and admit it so I can never take them seriously again

I voted for: Better than Jedi and the prequels, but not a New Hope or Empire.LoathedVermin72 wrote:The nine people who voted "Best of all the films" need to come forward and admit it so I can never take them seriously again
But honestly the more I watch it, the more I think I like it more than A New Hope, too.
Also, I need to rewatch Return of the Jedi. I might like that one more than A New Hope also. And if that's true, it changes everything. And all of this is meaningless.

The only thing I know for sure is that Empire is on my list of 100 greatest movies of all time. And I really enjoy The Force Awakens. It gets better each time I watch it, actually. But it's not anywhere near my top 100.LoathedVermin72 wrote:That's pretty bad, Joeydurdencommatyler wrote:I voted for: Better than Jedi and the prequels, but not a New Hope or Empire.LoathedVermin72 wrote:The nine people who voted "Best of all the films" need to come forward and admit it so I can never take them seriously again

That's been my vote since the beginning. I saw the film twice in theaters and once at home. I'm not feeling compelled to re-watch for awhile. I just don't "buy in" with Kylo Ren as a bad guy. He doesn't scare me like Vader did.dprival78 wrote:i'm liking this movie less as time goes on. all of the rehashing and plot holes that i was able to overlook earlier, i'm not able to overlook them as easily now. had to change my vote (again).. dropping down to 'better than the prequels, not as good as the originals".

Exactly. He's not supposed to scare you. He's ill equipped for the mission. He's not a villain in his heart.

The scary part (for lack of a better term) is his unpredictability and desire to be bad.

He's the most interesting character in any of the movies. What a great, fresh idea.

Interesting to see some of our views on it have changed.
Are we all ready to rank em yet?

Kylo is fine with me. Actually, I wonder if it would have been a better move to have this movie focus more on his rise to power, along with that of the first order. ROTJ saw the empire's defeat, and 30 years later, it's like they're basically right back to where they were as if nothing happened - new leadership, a new death star, etc. I think it would have been interesting if they went with a "the dark side awakens" approach.. show the audience - and the rest of the SW galaxy - why we should be scared of the new villain, and then give us our new heros.

First time I saw it, I loved it but thought they'd gotten it totally wrong with Kylo and he was a disaster both on writing and performance. Couple more viewings and it totally clicked and made sense. I'm with Stip, he's one of the more intriguing characters ever seen in Star Wars cos of the usual flip with the light calling to him. I just hope he doesn't get redeemed. Itd be the worst option for the character and the story.

I was with some friends last weekend and this movie came up. Everyone loved it. One person said that a lot of OT stuff felt dated or clumsy and it is getting harder for him to ignore it, and that FA was his favorite.
It would be super interesting to see a story where Rey gets consumed with revenge on Kylo, and in the course of the story their positions reverse.
