Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
Sounds like they took their time as opposed to 2 two week writing sessions and slapping an album together which seemed to be their approach the past two records. It shows in DOTC and the arrangements and production. It bodes well but we’ll seeliebzz wrote:Between the new song and the song descriptions, sounds like we are getting an album closer to their wheelhouse. The hope I have, and the optimism I hope I share, is that even if they are not veering extensively into new sonic territory, that the other songs are still as vitally inspired as Dance of the Clairvoyants. If that’s the case, this will be a great album. If it’s by the numbers again, we could see some upset folks here.

yeah, it does show that they put more effort. Its a very band effort instead of Ed showing up with a demo and the other guys putting a few thing on top.

Just catching up with the listening party responses that were posted over the weekend. Glad to see the consensus is...
"Dude, I just heard the new PJ record!"
"Really?! Was it good, bad or just OK?"
"Yes."

agreed. i'm in the minority on this board in that i'm not terribly keen on DotC but i love how inspired and stoked they seem to be about the process. i also really really liked the solo version of River Cross so that helps. also when someone mentions "sizzling solos" and "mike McCready" i tend to be pumped. i mean, my handle...liebzz wrote:Between the new song and the song descriptions, sounds like we are getting an album closer to their wheelhouse. Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
Small snippet on new album. apologies if already posted. haven't seen it
https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainm ... ammy-week/
"Without drawing too many conclusions from a single listen, much of “Gigaton” feels like new terrain for the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. At times there are hints of post-punk, warbly psych licks, spaced-out synth sounds, as well as Who-vian stadium thunder that wouldn’t sound out of place on other Pearl Jam records. For those wondering, “Dance of the Clairvoyants” may reside on the outer edges of the band’s latest experiments."

For a listening party, there sure aren’t as many media outlet impressions as I expected. Was hoping we’d get more.

What will you like to know? It's hard to get concrete impressions from a first lesson but I've got notes from the listening party that I can share.scrub12 wrote:For a listening party, there sure aren’t as many media outlet impressions as I expected. Was hoping we’d get more.

How did You're Fired! (The President) sound? Rocker? Return to form? Will we see it as a B-Side?lecherouslittlestump wrote:What will you like to know? did Ed explain his now recurring interest in "the undertow"? is it metaphorical or literal? can we visit it?

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread (real tracklists released!)
You're Fired! (The President) was in contention for the final traklist but did not make the cut for this album, and I don't think it was retitled, because there's nothing on Gigaton that overtly talks about Trump.Vindicator wrote:How did You're Fired!
