Oh, yeah, I love that stuff too. It's always fun to hear rumors and gossip like that because we'll probably never now for sure. It's fun when it's different from the "official" story.

I dont believe for a minute that he had to be repeatedly asked by kennedy to do it..which do you do to make your name a household name as a director? it's not a star trek film that's for sure. Speilberg & Kennedy more than likely had him lined up but he had to cut his teeth beforehand so we got ST..

I firmly believe Star Trek was his "Star Wars" movie at that time. Remember, when he made it, there was no talk of any more SW films being made. He wasn't a ST fan, but figured since he couldn't do a SW movie, he'd do Trak as a Wars movie.

I don't know. It's not the man had never made a film before. It's not like he wasn't already a household name. The man had a handful of super successful TV shows.

Not only that, but the guy is such a tremendous fan of Star Wars. I think it makes more sense that after the True Fan backlash of Trek, he got nervous about doing the same thing to Star Wars fans. And he didn't need to do it. It wouldn't have hurt his career to say no, but it could have really damaged his career if the movie had been an unmitigated disaster (financially and with critics and fans).

Let's do a sig/avatar bet.

If you're right and LV loves ST: Beyond I'll let you pick my avatar and my signature. And I'll keep both for three months.

If LV hates it, I get to pick your avatar/sig and you keep what I pick for three months.

If LV is indifferent about it, neither of us win and we keep the avatar/sigs that we have. But we continue to give LV shit for hating JJ Abrams so much.

Deal?

Double-posting from the Star Trek Beyond thread because the article is just as much about TFA as STB:
