Lucky man! I have checked their tour dates, they will be around Tennessee and Texas in the end of September, and nothing more until Portland and BDO in Australia NZ later.
I guess they will play at least some dates of leg 2, if not all of them. They are available for the leg 1 too, I would love to see them there.

It was announced today in the Ticketmaster page of the show. I'm stoked! This will be my 5th (I think?) time seeing Mudhoney.

Van Occupanther is one of the finest records of the last 10 years.

Also, evenslow, check out the new downloadable Midlake single on the website. It's really cool. Van Occupanther was great but the last album mostly sucked.

i'll check it out.

Courage of Others took me a loooooooong time to get into, but I do think it's a very good album. very much a mood piece. i get why people wouldn't like it though coming off the heels of van occupanther.

Just listened to 'antiphon'. first take: interesting and psychedelic without any hook to make it memorable. better than i expected w/o tim smith though.

Yes about Van Occupanther.

The single needed two or three listens for me because I couldn't find that memorable hook either, but weirdly, it's those Antiphon chorus (?) vocals that provide the harmonic 'hook' to my ears. Also, the drumming is great and I like how the melody goes to all sorts of unpredictable places. They seem to have took note of their chord progression choices being predictable; maybe they just got in the studio and tried to create weird chord progressions and out came prog rock.

Apparently Tim Smith wanted to go in a different direction. It is weird they would keep the midlake name though. I don't know, he explains what happened on his new band site called "Harp". I look forward to hearing it.

I know it's apples to oranges but his reasoning for the break-up sounds like if fleetwood mac and lindsey buckingham parted ways during the recording of tusk.

to my mind, the guy who wrote "bandits" can take as much time as he likes.

We get two new bands out of this deal. It's a win win. He's only one member, isn't it pretty normal for a band to carry on under those circumstances?

I just wonder if they will still play midlake songs that Tim Smith used to sing or only play certain songs? I think that will determine how excited I'll be IF they do end up opening for PJ.

It's akin to CCR continuing after John left.

Smith was the lead singer-songwriter. He also got a separate producing credit and even took the photos for van occupanther. That's a big loss.

Undoubtedly. So it was a good decision, I think, not to continue in the same musical direction (well, it looks to be why they split so it's probably not even deliberate).

Sounds like if I worked with Tim Smith, I would have choked him by now.

I have to admit, I'm more excited by this change of direction than more of the same from Tim Smith.

every band member feels that way about every frontman from time to time.
