Jorge really doesn't have much to offer the new board, it seems.

I wasn't trying to alienate or win people over. I guess a combo of neutral and real stip. I have some commentary in there but I was mostly trying to describe as best I could. I spent half the time just jotting quick observations down while I was listening

musically I thought these were all quite good. I wasn't a huge fan of the matt song but I think others will really like it. The two fast songs in particular were great. My guess (and this won't be a surprise to anyone) is that the quality of this album will rise and fall on ed. the vocal melodies on the songs he sang on were good. He sounded great everywhere but transience. He wasn't bad there, but a few of the things that have been irritating some people about his current singing were present. That didn't feel like a final vocal though.

Did you get the sense, while listneing, that it was a PJ by the numbers album? Couple slow songs, here is your punk pj song, is your introspective song and boom bam? Did you get any sense that they were trying something bigger than what they seem to think pearl jam should be?

it's hard to say. four of the songs didn't have Ed singing and two didn't even have singing at all. There was a mix of styles, but that's standard. They weren't arranged in a way that really spoke to a cohesive vision that picked up on in one listen, but again I don't think they were intended to be that yet.

The mercury/transience thing definitely was different and is very cool, or probably will be. There wasn't the token random punk pop throw away song that we've come to expect. The faster songs were meatier than that. But I guess in the sense that you mean it, yeah this is a PJ by the numbers album in that it has the standard variety of songs that every Pearl Jam album has. Every PJ album is a by the numbers album. That doesn't seem to have changed. Good songs though.

Thanks stip.

Vague questions require vague responses to vague experiences that lasted for only a short period of time.

Man we are desperate for new pj to mock!*

i've got a very good feeling about this album. Granted I liked the last two a lot, but even if I hadn't I think I'd feel this way based on these songs.

Stip, for all you know these songs won't even sound the same by them time the album rolls around, if they make the cut at all.

I liked the last two albums but I dont feel they live up to what PJ could be. Vedder has stated "Forgive us if we enjoy it now" and i feel the last two albums have been made the same way. Doesnt mean they are bad records but it does feel there was less - something - put into them.

But im strat and im always excited for PJ!
