he'll be awesome w/ giroux, but 5 years is a long time and thats a fairly decent sized cap hit
i was thinking of those point totals, but he hasn't had seasons in that range in 3 years.sportsfreakpete6 wrote:you mean the 65-70 points a season he's averaged for like the past 4 or 5?elliseamos wrote:good for him. maybe being in a new place will bring his game of a few years ago back.shinkdew wrote:Flyers sign Lecavalier, 5 years, $22.5m., also includes a full no movement clause.
Sounds good to me
I'm fine with the cap hit but it may be one year too many, although he had 6 years left on his bolts deal I think. But that's a small price to pay to win the best available player in the gamewarehouse wrote:he'll be awesome w/ giroux, but 5 years is a long time and thats a fairly decent sized cap hit
yeah, this pretty muchphilpritchard wrote:It seems like every time Holmgren feels like he's made a mistake, he finds a way out of it and uses the money he saved to make another mistake. I want to see Lecavalier do well, but Holmgren's track record makes me think he's about to crash and burn in Philly.
Also, they still only have one goalie under contract, and it's still Steve Mason.
guys, timmy time is going to work out fine. he's not a product of his former team's defensive system, honest. plus, he's a great quote-machine, so the press will love him.MattA75 wrote:yeah, this pretty muchphilpritchard wrote:It seems like every time Holmgren feels like he's made a mistake, he finds a way out of it and uses the money he saved to make another mistake. didnt he win mvp? they just give this guy awards for no reasonshinkdew wrote:Somehow Ovechkin was named a First Team All Star at RW, and a Second Team All Star at LW. WTF?
The best part is they sent out an email telling the voters that Ovechkin was a RW (I guess he changed from LW). I think it's pretty clear the media has given up their right to vote for awards.warehouse wrote:didnt he win mvp? they just give this guy awards for no reasonshinkdew wrote:Somehow Ovechkin was named a First Team All Star at RW, and a Second Team All Star at LW. haha this is pretty true...however, I don't think Homer will have much impact on whether or not Lecavalier will be s strong performer or notphilpritchard wrote:It seems like every time Holmgren feels like he's made a mistake, he finds a way out of it and uses the money he saved to make another mistake. It's always a bit unfair to analyze moves in hindsight, but that's really the only way to evaluate a GM. It's a GM's job to anticipate what a player will be able to contribute to the team going forward, so when a player doesn't live up to expectations you kind of have to pin that on whoever was responsible for bringing that player to the team.sportsfreakpete6 wrote:haha this is pretty true...however, I don't think Homer will have much impact on whether or not Lecavalier will be s strong performer or notphilpritchard wrote:It seems like every time Holmgren feels like he's made a mistake, he finds a way out of it and uses the money he saved to make another mistake. completely agreed...but I don't think poor play of someone like Bryzgalov or Briere of the past two years really speaks a lot to what Vinny will be able to do...basically what I'm saying is I'm not going to try to say that those cases are pointing to a probable disappointment of Lecavalier's play. I don't want to try to say: "These past player sucked after this amount of time on the team and they were brought in by the same GM so based on that I think it's more likely this signing too will end up poorly."philpritchard wrote:It's always a bit unfair to analyze moves in hindsight, but that's really the only way to evaluate a GM. That depends how realistic they are. In Bryzgalov's case, the Flyers' expectations were way too high, but he failed to meet even the most reasonable expectations. Both are to blame for the situation.sportsfreakpete6 wrote:Do I think Bryz was evaluated poorly by the Flyers? Hell yeah...but I think a lot of onus is still on the player to perform to the expectations of management.
what about trading away richards & carter and them winning the cup? not to mention adding to that by overpaying bryz and handing columbus the top goalie in the league? owe, and wouldn't you rather have JVR over the next 5 seasons than VL? i would.sportsfreakpete6 wrote:Hindsight performance of players brought in my a GM doesn't necessarily show how much success the future player will have...
you're right, b/c those three teams have made moves that won them each a stanley cup. lolgren has worked hard for every critic he has.sportsfreakpete6 wrote:these conversations wouldn't be happening if he went to Red Wings/Hawks/Bruins
if i was an athlete my wife would sign a contract that she will never bring up anything to do with contract negotiations on social media at allThe Washington Capitals, who traded for Mike Ribeiro a year ago, are going to let him walk via free agency. The 33-year-old centre's wife, Tamara, is none too pleased about the situation. "Nothing like being uprooted from your home for a year for absolutely no apparent reason," she tweeted, along with the hashtag #pissedbeyondbelief. Tamara, who goes by the Twitter handle @Angeltw3, has three children with Mike. Ribeiro is coming off a five-year, $25-million contract and was seeking a five-year extension from the Capitals who were unwilling to meet his demands, according to RDS. He scored 13 goals and had 36 assists in 48 games for the Caps last season.
