"Twin Tower" is monstrous -- sludgy, mechanical riffage laced with just the right dose of "artsy."

Some of the remixes on CD3 are pretty funny.

Gotcha. I don't know "King Animal" very well (I haven't heard it since it was streaming pre-release) -- I should pick up a copy now that some of their other work has registered with me...

Back to Nothing To Say: I don't know if that track is a composite or not but it is at least ten times heavier than the studio cut. Instrumentally it is beyond reproach and Cornell's voice couldn't be more perfect. And you can always tell when Matt is totally into a live performance, because he ends his signature roll/fill with two snare strikes rather than the typical one (2:39-2:42). Which the rest of the band is then energised by and feeds on - you can sense it because the riff immediately following is more overpowering than the band ever has been or maybe ever will be (2:43-3:25).

On nothing to say from l 5; its gloomy and big...the end with cornell barking like a fucking wolf gets me everytime i listen to it.

On the remixes; i forgot how much i care about this remixes and sg used to do them well; they are funny and imaginative.

No, that was a one-off. They dug that one out for the end of the tour (it was the last show of the tour). The audience recording sucks but the performance is so ridiculously great that it stands out just the same. The only thing they changed on Live on I-5 is that they turned down the barking at the end of the song. It's plainly audible and very loud on the audience recording.

The one thing that bums me about Live on I-5 (besides the mixing, which is terrible, and the added audience noise, which is inexcusable) is that I would have just made a 2-disc set of the final two Seattle shows. They're both great, they're the last two Seattle shows of the band's original run and they have more diverse setlists than other shows on that tour. Here's what I would have done:

I was really excited in advance of the release of Live on I-5 but those issues ended up being disappointingly hard for me to get past. I have plenty of records where I feel the production gets in the way of the material to a greater or lesser extent (King Animal being one, for example) but I'm still able to set that aside and enjoy the music. That live album falls into the rare category where I simply can't, the strange mix and overbearing crowd noise are so distracting that I just can't ignore them.

I would've loved something like you'd set out above (providing the audio was handled better, of course).

reeder, i feel a little bad requesting shows from you all the time, and you've already been pretty generous. but when you get a chance, could you up the Feb 12/89 show to mega, assuming you've got it? Early soundboard i haven't heard with a good looking set including versions of Thank You, Mace, and i do wanna check out at least one other version of Earache. Whenever you have time man. Thx.

I actually didn't realize till now that the version of Earache on Echoes is not the same as the Louder Than Live version. The Echoes version must be night 1 of the Whisky stand and the LTL version night 2. Cool.

My favorite track on I-5 with a close second going to Rusty Cage. It's like one of the heaviest SG live recordings I've heard, and pretty impressive to hear Cornell belt out that song so powerfully in the late SG days when he was very hit or miss.

No problem. Coincidentally I just scored an original silver of this bootleg of Ebay for $14. Apparently nobody knew how rare it was, and nobody thought to look. I was the only bidder. I'm not complaining.
