I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I liked the episode okay. The Christmas one is usually pretty light but the opening sketch was one of snarkier ones of the season and even got a reaction from Trump on twitter. I liked the "Best Christmas" pre taped piece. I'm surprised Miley didn't pop up in a sketch, she's proved to be a pretty good host.

I haven't watched the Weezer sketch, but this bit from an online description made me laugh out loud
Before the situation explodes, the argument is defused when another party guest admits they like Yellowcard, leading Damon to storm out of the house while singing Weezer’s “Beverly Hills” as he exits.
There is no way the aired version is as good as what I'm imagining

Great episode. I was very impressed by Miley Cyrus and loved the Happy Xmas with Sean Lennon. Very classy, but it did look like she was doing karaoke having to look at the lyrics screen so often. But anyway...

How was this only the second time Matt Damon has hosted? He seems like one of those people who should at least be in the five-timers club.

The "Free range kids" line in the cold opener made me laugh.

A slightly improved episode this week. I thought the Scottish air traffic controller and Charmin sketches were the best and I liked the Nawlans sketch at the end too. Weekend Update was actually pretty good and also enjoyed the Leslie Jones and the Chris Redd/Pete Davidson pretaped songs. McAvoy was okay and had a chance to play with accents.

The Virginia blackface scandal sketch won the night for me. I normally don't care for Guy Who Just Bought a Boat but that was a good one. Melissa Villasegnor broke out a very good Gaga impression on Update and has to be thankful AOC is on the national stage now. She's a natural to play her. Halsey's second song performance was pretty impressive but otherwise didn't have too much to do. Otherwise a forgettable, nothing special episode.

Fresh Takes and Extreme Baking were quite funny.

The Trump open was basically just a word for word copy of the actual speech.

Extreme Baking got some good laughs and Update was okay but otherwise I thought it was a pretty weak episode and waste of Cheadle.

it was a very good episode. first 45 minutes or so were consistently funny, last bit wasn't as good but still probably above average compared to recent skits. not enough bill hader though.

It's on my dvr and will watch later today. Mulaney's first hosting gig was one of the high water marks of it's season so I have expectations.
