I am in the slow process of digging in the essential albums thread, but Making Movies had no songs I was familiar with, but I was pretty blown away by that.

Yes, the last 5 minutes of Telegraph Road are the best music has to offer. Knopfler’s albums are also very good.

Right I was careful to say personal otherwise I'm making a list for other people to approve of and I'm too old for that shit. I do dig those other artists though esp. Otis.

Another big MK/Dire Straits fan here. Great songwriter, great guitarist. One of my favorites.

I used to hate Dire Straits because "Walk of Life" is so goddamn annoying, but I came to realize they have a ton of good shit.

Walk of Life is my favourite Dire Straits song because I loved "Space Camp" as a kid

I used to hate them because mark knopfler was so fuckin corny in the 80s, but yeah they have like 20 great songs

I would've liked to have heard Pearl Jam cover them a couple of decades ago

Mark Knopfler was a Back to the Future II before there was even a Back to the Future I.

totally agree; I enjoy Light Grenades fine now but when it came out I was severely disappointed
