I owed a duty of care (as legislated by gov't) up and to the point the vaccine was available to all.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the sheer stupidity in not only sending your sick kid to school for four fucking days, and then hanging out in close quarters with other people knowing you've got a sick kid.

especially, when you work in healthcare. on top of that, you work for the director of infectious diseases (my wife) at the hospital.

i mean, godddamnit. and i really don't care that they were masked. you could be in an office and touch a million things.

note: my wife never wanted to hire this person from the start, but her boss did the hiring.
I can understand the frustration. Does the employer provide unlimited and paid days to care for the possibly Covid affected people in their care? If not, I can understand why someone sends their child to school and comes into work.

Covid is more contagious and spreads quicker. Severe illness is more likely and the mortality rate is higher. Also our immune systems are more naive towards covid, so we’re still being surprised by it (variants). Meaning…

… so yeah, you’re vaccinated and in a much safer place with it. But it’s starting to become apparent, unfortunately, that vaccinated can catch and spread the virus, and there’s a huge amount of the population still unable to be vaccinated, so the game’s changed. Getting vaccinated isn’t enough anymore - especially if you’re interested in normality again.

a little more context…

yes, they do get paid time off. Unlimited? Probably not, but this person does no bedside care, and could essentially wfh. Also, she can bring her daughter to the hospital for a free test any time—why wait four days after your kid has already said they don’t feel well?

an underlying problem for this particular person is she’s been skating on thin ice for a long time by cutting out early, and generally leaving my wife to pickup things that would otherwise be delegated to her. there’s been a theme of a lack of consideration since the beginning of her employment there, and this is an extension of it.

idk, a little consideration goes a long way, even in a pandemic. I don’t care if you don’t believe in covid, or getting vaccinated. I don’t care if you can’t breathe through your mask. Wearing one, and maintaining basic hygiene is considerate enough for me. If you die, that just means there’s more oatmeal for me.

There’s no protocol in place for this employee to report having been exposed? I thought that was basically standard now. Or did she just lie?

That would come down to the bigger problem our country has around limited sick time.

Is the quarantine warranted would be my first question?

Yeah, vaccination rate is probably low 20 percent in that state.

In the U.S.? Besides those under 12 who is unable to be vaccinated?

I think a Trumpian usage of huge was used. Could be five people but it's a huge amount regardless of reality.

So apparently our latest outbreak has made it down my way (Still unconfirmed at this stage), and my stepsons are freaking out now. When we heard that we were going into lockdown they took off to spend their last few hours of freedom with thier mates and then during the conversation yesterday one of them said 'Oh, they were all sick' and apparently one of them has had to go and have a test done. Bunch of bloody Muppets!

She only had her daughter tested today, so I’m not sure.

Already lost one co worker in March to covid. Now another one, one of the few in our firm unvaccinated, is in the hospital and on oxygen for breathing problems.
