He’s in a genuinely tough spot. Badly doesn’t want this next set of evidence shown in a public setting, but also cannot reasonably offer to cooperate....which is probably the only way prosecutors will embrace a plea deal.

Meanwhile, his window to act is evaporating.

My guess is that some of the information the government has to share in the next trial might make it particularly toxic to Trump to issue a pardon, so Manny wants the plea deal in order to preserve that hope. But without cooperation, you’re fishing for a fantasy.
